An interesting new Pokemon release gives players over 200 Ghost-types to catch. In the original Generation 1 Pokemon games, only three Ghost-types were available, and they were part of the same evolution line. In those games, players could catch a Gastly and evolve it into a Haunter through leveling up, which could then be evolved into fan-favorite Gengar by trading.
Since Gen 1, new Pokemon generations have continued to introduce Ghost-types, to the point where there’s nearly 100 official ones to catch in the games. It’s highly likely that the upcoming Generation 10 games, Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives Pokemon Winds and Waves, will introduce even more Ghost-types for players to add to their roster, but none have been revealed just yet. In the meantime, a new fan-made Pokemon release has come up with plenty of its own Ghost-types.
Pokemon Ghost Grey Trailer
Fan-made Pokemon game Pokemon Ghost Grey, made by Joey Zeed, takes place in the Kanto region a whopping 50 years after the events of the Generation 2 games, Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. This version of Kanto has become “decayed” and “overrun by ghosts.” It’s a fascinating twist on a familiar region, offering Pokemon fans the chance to experience a “full-length” adventure with over 120 new Ghost-types to catch that are regional variants of existing Pokemon. Pokemon Ghost Grey boasts a “full graphical overhaul” with original sprites, an original soundtrack, an upgraded Pokedex, and more. It’s a spooky twist on classic Pokemon and one of the more ambitious fan projects that has been released so far.
Who’s That Character?

The Reddit post showing off the Pokemon Ghost Grey trailer includes some notes about technical changes that have been made in the game. For example, Steel resists Ghost and Dark, Psychic is not weak to Ghost, and Fairy only resists Dragon instead of being immune to it. EVs and IVs aren’t in the game, Pokemon eggs and breeding are out the window, and some new moves have been added to the mix for good measure.
Pokemon fans hungry for new experiences may want to check out fan-made projects like Pokemon Ghost Grey while they wait for official releases. Pokemon Winds and Waves are the next mainline Pokemon games, and they aren’t expected to release until late 2027. Not only that, but it’s highly unlikely that new information on the games will be revealed this year at all. Reputable leakers have suggested that the next Pokemon Winds and Waves info dump won’t come until Pokemon Day 2027, which will take place on February 27.
Whether that’s true or not remains to be seen, but regardless, fans will be waiting quite awhile for Pokemon Winds and Waves. If other leaks are to be believed, there are plenty of other exciting Pokemon games in development besides the Gen 10 games as well, with a new Pokemon Legends game set in the Galar region and reportedly taking some inspiration from Pikmin of all things, as well as an MMO Pokemon project that features multiple regions.
