Spooky season may officially be over, but PlayStation 5 owners have a brand-new horror game to check out. Titled Hell of Fear: Mind Breach, this new PS5 horror game wears its Dead Space and System Shock inspirations proudly on its sleeve.
2026 has been a pretty great year for horror video games. While long-anticipated AAA releases like Resident Evil Requiem, Directive 8020, Silent Hill Townfall, and Hellraiser: Revival led the charge, a wealth of smaller-scale games really helped to bolster the horror genre this year, such as Crisol: Theater of Idols and Silver Pines. But the year isn’t over just yet, and there’s still plenty of room for even more horror gaming experiences.

A first-person sci-fi horror experience, Hell of Fear: Mind Breach sees players assume the role of Major Axel Vex, a veteran of Extraterrestrial Incident Response who’s been sent to investigate a potential threat emerging from an underground research facility known as Cengona Base. Of course, what should have been just a routine investigation quickly becomes an intense battle for survival, as players are forced to go up against all manner of monstrous, Dead Space-like enemies.
Throughout the course of Hell of Fear, players will make their way through 26 unique sectors of Cengona Base, each one boasting its own assortment of otherworldly threats that players need to blast away, and an array of environmental puzzles that players need to stealthily solve in order to progress. Along the way, players will uncover a plethora of collectibles in the form of security recordings and staff logs, all of which combine to deliver a gruesome backstory of what happened at the facility.
Though Hell of Fear: Mind Breach has just arrived on consoles, it had its original PC launch back in December 2025. Over on Metacritic, Hell of Fear is sitting at a score of 71, though that’s based on just 4 critic reviews at the time of writing. On Steam, Hell of Fear currently has a ‘Very Positive’ rating based on 134 user reviews. While many criticized the game’s lack of polish and its somewhat uneven gunplay, many also praised Hell of Fear‘s atmosphere, story, and its tightness in terms of level design and scope.
