The farming sim created by solo developer ConcernedApe easily stands as one of the standout titles of the indie game scene. The game saw overwhelming success following its original release in 2016 and has often been viewed as a pinnacle of indie gaming. Stardew Valley‘s influence on the cozy game genre is credited as one of the biggest factors in its explosion in popularity, and the game has sold more than 50 million copies worldwide. Now, a passionate Stardew Valley modder is giving fans the chance to experience the game like they never have before, making it playable in VR.
Stardew Valley Mod Adds 3D VR Mode
Modder GingasVR recently shared their stunning mod converting Stardew Valley into a 3D game compatible with VR. The mod allows players to explore Pelican Town, work on their farms, and venture into the caves in 3D, converting the game’s existing 2D sprites into 3D models. The mod features both VR compatibility and non-VR motion controls and the option for players to toggle in-game cutscenes between first-person, third-person, and 2D perspectives. The VR mod is even confirmed to be compatible with nearly every mod and update for Stardew Valley, while simultaneously being lightweight and easy to install and uninstall.

GingasVR went into greater detail about how the 3D effect was achieved for Stardew Valley both in the replies to the post and its NexusMods listing. The mod uses voxel conversion to shift the game’s original 2D sprites into 3D models, retaining the same look and feel while being placed into a 3D space. This conversion method makes the mod compatible with most standard mods for the game, using the same process to produce 3D models for assets created by third-party developers. GingasVR also confirmed that the VR mod should work with Stardew Valley‘s multiplayer mode as well, given that all players have the mod installed.
While Stardew Valley already comes with an impressive array of content, mods have added even more to the beloved game. Many of the game’s most popular mods have added more marriage candidates to Stardew Valley, both introducing new characters and allowing players to marry pre-existing characters like Robin and Gus. Some modders have also brought characters from other popular properties into the game, including the “Baldur’s Village” mod based on Baldur’s Gate 3.
Even ten years after the original release of Stardew Valley, ConcernedApe continues to improve and add more to the game. The solo developer has already shared that he is actively working on the 1.7 update for Stardew Valley, confirming two new marriage candidates in Clint and Sandy. ConcernedApe has also expressed his desire to continue working on the game into the future, joking that he could imagine the farming sim still receiving updates in the year 2075. Stardew Valley fans should have plenty to look forward to from the game for years to come, with ConcernedApe clearly still committed to his breakout hit.
