A new Stardew Valley mod is now available, giving players the option of playing the game in 3D, and specifically in VR. Since the game’s release in 2016, Stardew Valley has earned a huge following around the globe. The game’s success has inspired a lot of different mods, with a community of gamers creating many new and interesting ways to approach its world.

A big part of Stardew Valley‘s charm can be attributed to the simple approach to its graphics and designs. The game’s 2D sprites have a timeless quality that has almost certainly played a role in its popularity. Despite this, Stardew Valley fan concepts and mods have reimagined how the game might look in 3D. Developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone hasn’t offered an official 3D version of the game, but there are options for those interested in downloading various mods.

Stardew Valley Gets a VR Mod

On Reddit, modder ActualGingas shared video of a Stardew Valley mod they created that makes the game playable in VR with motion controls. The creator says that the project is still a work in progress, but it’s already getting a lot of praise from fans. Fishing is a major part of Stardew Valley, and the mod includes motion controls for casting a reel. Players can also use those motion controls for using various tools and even fighting. The mod is currently available for download on Nexus Mods, and it was updated earlier in the month of August.

Stardew Valley is known for being a cozy game, and it’s unclear just how many existing players might be interested in playing that specific genre in VR. A big part of the game’s appeal is that it can be picked up and enjoyed in short bursts, and VR isn’t always conducive to that. VR also remains pretty niche in terms of appeal, because the technology can be expensive and cumbersome. In spite of all that, the mod is an incredible accomplishment in just how much it seems to retain the look and feel of the game. It all still looks and feels faithful to what Stardew Valley is meant to be.

At the very least, the Stardew Valley mod could appeal to VR fans that might not otherwise check out this specific genre. The comments for the original Reddit post show multiple posters that have never played the game, but are now curious to do so based on this mod. More than 50 million people have already discovered Stardew Valley, and that number could grow even larger.

Those interested in trying Stardew Valley for the first time will have another option of doing so. In February, Stardew Valley is getting a physical version for Switch 2. An update was previously released digitally, but the upcoming physical release will offer it on a cartridge that works in both the original Switch and on Switch 2. Physical game releases have been getting a lot of attention lately, so this could be the perfect option for Switch 2 users that prefer having their games in that specific format.
