New Steam Game Has Serious Morrowind Vibes

New Steam Game Has Serious Morrowind Vibes

An upcoming Steam game called Queen’s Domain looks like it has some serious Morrowind vibes, to its own benefit. Although Queen’s Domain doesn’t currently have a release date on Steam, it already looks primed for success thanks to its stunningly faithful retro-fantasy aesthetic. The Morrowind inspiration looks strong with Queen’s Domain, but it’s still doing plenty of things its own way.

Queen’s Domain is the second title from developer Freshly Baked Games. The studio’s first title was The New Flesh, a free-to-play “ambient exploration experience” that showcased new music from rock band Red Vox. It almost sounds experimental, but The New Flesh was met with “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam, a positive omen for Queen’s Domain. The New Flesh also used the same retro aesthetic as Queen’s Domain, albeit depicting a grimy, modern world rather than a fantasy land. It’s exciting that this new developer is already experimenting with genres like this, and it’s cool that its visual identity is already strong enough to be recognizable after just two titles. Whether Queen’s Domain can be a favorite among fans like The New Flesh remains to be seen.

New Steam Game is Essentially Minecraft Hits ARC Raiders Over the Head and Steals Its Loot, and It Robs Satisfactory Too

A new Steam game has strong Minecraft and Satisfactory vibes, but is also great for fans who want a more PvE-oriented experience from ARC Raiders.

Queen’s Domain Looks Like a Modern Morrowind, and You Can Play the Demo Right Now

Gamers can head to the Steam page to check out Queen’s Domain right now. The game is described by developer Freshly Baked Games as being a “retro-fantasy action RPG with brutal combat and traversal-focused exploration.” Players will “embark on a quest to find your father who disappeared on the mysterious Isle of Neasied, where sinister forces gather, secrets hide everywhere, and the sleeping Queen has begun to stir.” This interconnected island featured in the action RPG is filled with secrets, according to the developer, touting “dozens of hours of adventuring and exploration.”

Along the way, players will have over 50 melee weapons to find, which can be upgraded throughout the adventure. That’s not to mention the 20+ types of secondary throwing weapons, giving players different ways to approach combat in Queen’s Domain. There’s even a unique weapon mechanic, surrounding the Legendary Holy Sword Endu, which allows gamers to “take flight from platform to platform.” It seems as though this is going to be a central movement mechanic in Queen’s Domain, which should help it stand out from the crowd.

There’s tons of inspiration here from retro RPGs. Its retro-fantasy aesthetic makes it look a lot like Morrowind, but the modern lighting helps elevate the visuals to a level above in that department. Even the combat, which features special attacks and a classic stamina meter, looks like it has a touch of Morrowind‘s charming jankiness, which really helps to sell the retro vibe. With over 100 enemies, mini bosses, and bosses to defeat, and what the developer describes as “brutal combat,” it seems that Queen’s Domain is going to really challenge players, implying it could even have some Souls DNA in there too. There is some typical RPG fare present in Queen’s Domain. Players will be able to earn XP while leveling up, and increase their stats by eating food found across the Isle of Neasied.

As it stands, it’s not clear when Queen’s Domain will be released. Freshly Baked Games hasn’t yet said when it plans to release the game, nor whether it will take an Early Access approach to gather feedback for a full release. According to the developer, Queen’s Domain has been in development since 2023, so it has been in the works for some time. The good news is that gamers who don’t want to wait can play a free demo of Queen’s Domain on Steam right now. Freshly Baked Games claims that the demo comprises the “first hour or so” of the game.
