Soulslikes are having a big year on Steam, with games like Nioh 3, Mortal Shell 2, and even bizarre titles like Dinoblade hitting the storefront on PC in 2026. Although Steam has no shortage of soulslikes, a unique new entry in the genre lets players face a dark fantasy world like never before. Rather than putting players in the shoes of an undead warrior or fallen knight, this soulslike has players take on the role of a dog out to reclaim its captured master.
Stray Dog: nobody cares looks a lot like other soulslike games like Elden Ring or Mortal Shell 2 at first glance. However, its defining feature is the canine protagonist wielding a sword in its mouth that players will control, similar to the iconic Dark Souls boss Sif, the Great Grey Wolf. Still, Stray Dog: nobody cares features all the trimmings of a soulslike that players come to expect, from combat to level progression and exploration, only this time in the body of a dog.

“A stray dog saved by a disgraced knight marches to rescue its captured master. Scorned by all as useless roadside trash, it grips his frayed sword in its jaws and ventures forth. Features: Stealth kills, custom levels, precise parries, brutal boss fights.”
Stray Dog: nobody cares is set in a war-torn kingdom, where invading armies have all but destroyed local villages. As a stray dog cast out by the villagers, the politics of war are of no interest to the protagonist, who only seeks to save the disgraced knight that took it in. This story likely sounds familiar to Dark Souls fans, as it seems to mirror the story of Artorias and his loyal dog companion, Sif.
With a sword in its mouth, this nameless stray dog can perform a wide variety of impressive attacks, from familiar soulslike moves like parries, backstabs, and deathblows, to unique combat arts to keep battles engaging and play styles diverse. Like the bosses of Dark Souls, Stray Dog: nobody cares also highlights its brutal boss fights, challenging players to master the combat mechanics of its four-legged protagonist.
While Stray Dog: nobody cares doesn’t have a release date yet, developer Parry Frames Studio notes that the combat framework for the game has already been completed. For players interested in getting a feel for what Stray Dog: nobody cares might play like, the developer’s previous game, a Berserk-inspired soulslike titled Crimson Oath, is available on Steam as well. As the soulslike genre evolves, more developers are experimenting with unique types of playable characters, like Kril the hermit crab in Another Crab’s Treasure or the Spinosaurus in Dinoblade, and now Parry Frame Studio is expanding this roster by letting players play as a dog with a sword in Stray Dog: nobody cares.
