New Witcher Game Announced, But There’s a Catch

New Witcher Game Announced, But There’s a Catch

A brand-new Witcher game has just been announced. Coming from developer Nerial and publisher Devolver Digital – in partnership with the Witcher game series creator CD Projekt Red – Reigns: The Witcher is set to launch on PC and mobile devices on February 25, 2026.

Debuting all the way back in 2016, Reigns is a Tinder-inspired strategy game series that sees players assume the role of a fantasy ruler who must swipe left or right to determine the outcome of a scenario they’re presented with. These decisions affect the course of the game’s narrative and the player’s relationships with certain characters and factions. Reigns received favorable reviews upon its 2016 launch, and its success has spawned a further four entries, including the standalone sequel Reigns: Her Majesty, the Sci-Fi set Reigns: Beyond, the Chinese epic-inspired Reigns: Three Kingdoms, and an official Game of Thrones entry.

Reigns: The Witcher Announced for PC and Mobile, But Not Consoles

On January 27, Nerial and Devolver Digital officially announced Reigns: The Witcher, which will launch on PC, Mac, iOS, and Android on February 25, 2026. Like previous Reigns entries, Reigns: The Witcher doesn’t seem to be coming to consoles at launch. And while past Reigns titles have come to Nintendo Switch a year or two after their initial launch, there’s been no official word yet on if Reigns: The Witcher will eventually find its way onto Nintendo’s handheld hybrid.

In Reigns: The Witcher, players will take on the role of Geralt of Rivia once more, though this time fans will be playing through a retelling of Geralt’s many misadventures as told by the bard Dandelion. Given Dandelion’s poetic nature, these retellings may be somewhat embellished, presenting familiar tales in a new light. Iconic characters like Yennefer, Triss, and Vesemir are all confirmed to appear in the Witcher spinoff.

Gameplay in Reigns: The Witcher follows a familiar formula for the Reigns series, albeit with a few new Witcher-specific minigames. The bulk of Reigns: The Witcher‘s gameplay will see players making decisions as Geralt, swiping left or right to choose one of two distinct options, many of which will affect the ongoing narrative and determine what happens both immediately following the decision and some events that occur later down the line. During these embellished tales, players will also engage in combat minigames that will see them moving Geralt along a five-tiled taskbar, avoiding enemy attacks (symbolized by a bite icon) and aiming to land on helpful icons like Signs and Geralt’s trusty silver Witcher sword. As players progress, they’ll increase Dandelion’s reputation, which in turn unlocks more characters and storylines.

Devolver Digital hasn’t confirmed how much Reigns: The Witcher will cost at launch, but if past titles are any indication, it should only set fans back a few dollars. Most non-licensed Reigns games have retailed for just $2.99, with the exception of Reigns: Beyond, which costs $4.99. The one and only licensed Reigns title, Reigns: Game of Thrones, retails for $3.99. While fans won’t have an official price until Devolver Digital announces it, fans can likely expect Reigns: The Witcher to cost around $5, though it could be more due to the popularity of the IP and the additional gameplay features that weren’t present in previous Reigns entries.

If Reigns newcomers are eager to try out the series’ gameplay before Reigns: The Witcher‘s launch in February, they can get a very brief taste over on the Reigns official website. Here, Dandelion presents players with a handful of choices to make, letting fans test out Reigns‘ unique swiping mechanic and get a feel for how it affects the flow of the game’s narrative.
