Nintendo Fans Are Worried About the Switch 2 Joy-Con Strategy

Nintendo Fans Are Worried About the Switch 2 Joy-Con Strategy

Fans are growing concerned that Nintendo Switch 2 will only offer unique Joy-Con options bundled with variant consoles. Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025, and the system was accompanied with the new Joy-Con 2 controllers. The controllers bundled with the system feature black shells with red and blue accents.

Nintendo has released additional Joy-Con colors to promote new games over the last year, but all the options follow the same design philosophy as the controllers bundled with the console. That means the controllers are all predominantly black, and only have slight differences between them. This is a stark contrast to the original Switch; that system initially launched with plain gray controllers, but Nintendo offered a plethora of different Joy-Con color options in subsequent years.

Nintendo Issues New Official Warning About the Switch 2

Nintendo is now officially warning potential customers about its latest home console/handheld hybrid, the Switch 2.

Why Nintendo Fans are Worried About Switch 2 Joy-Cons

A remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is set to be released in 2026, and a Switch 2 special edition console has leaked. The special edition seems to come with an exclusive pair of Joy-Con controllers with black and green on the shells, gold accents, and even the Triforce logo. Nintendo has yet to officially announce the system, but it already has fans on Reddit worried that all the best Joy-Con options will only be released in expensive bundles.

In the original Switch era, Nintendo released several Joy-Con pairs that were exclusively available with console bundles. If the leaked Switch 2 bundle is the only way to get the Ocarina of Time remake Joy-Con controllers, that won’t be a new move for Nintendo. For example, exclusive Joy-Con designs based on Pikachu and Eevee were released in a console bundle in 2018. Those could not be bought individually, but there were plenty of other colorful Joy-Con designs that could, such as the Zelda: Skyward Sword controllers from 2021. Fans are clearly looking for more vibrant options without having to purchase a whole new system.

A Nintendo Direct is rumored for September, and that’s likely when Nintendo will offer a lot more information on the Ocarina of Time remake. If the leaked system and Pro Controller are real, fans can assume that a full announcement should take place around that time. Nintendo’s plans for the remake have been kept vague, but that should change prior to launch. The company has also been quiet about its plans for 2027, with very few first-party games announced for release next year. A Nintendo Direct presentation could help flesh out the company’s plans for the rest of 2026, as well as early 2027.

Nintendo has yet to announce a release date, but the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is rumored to arrive on November 11. Even if that doesn’t prove to be the exact date, the game is likely to come out sometime in November or early December. That means Nintendo will have to give fans some advance notice of the game and any other accessories such as controllers, special edition consoles, or amiibo coming out with it. Hopefully, the company will do just that sometime soon, so fans have a better idea of what’s coming, and some of this speculation can be put to rest.
