You may spend most of your time in Nioh 3 beating down tough-as-nails enemies and bosses, but you’ll also have some downtime to shop for various items and crafting recipes you’ll need to help you keep doing so. As such, there are multiple types of currencies you’ll encounter that are required for purchasing items from specific vendors throughout the game–and perhaps the most important of these is Yokai Teardrops.
Yokai Teardrops are used to buy rare resources, Skill Texts, and Craft Guides from Sudama–those cute purple skull-wearing merchants you regularly encounter throughout Nioh 3’s maps. Unfortunately, this currency can be hard to come by. If you want to know how to get more Yokai Teardrops, we’ll give you some options below.
Where to get more Yokai Teardrops
There are a handful of ways to get more Yokai Teardrops. Here are the methods we used to score enough to buy everything we needed from all of the Sudamas in the game.
Defeat Kappas
One of the best ways to score chunks of Yokai Teardrops is to find and defeat Kappas–those fast-moving, shell-backed creatures you’ll often find hiding in corners or out-of-the-way areas. These can be a challenge to kill if you let them get too far away from you, so try sneaking up for a backstab to start the fight, then use a Sloth Talisman to keep them slowed down enough to get in plenty of hits.
Kappas also drop a ton of gear when they die, making them always worth taking out for a chance at something useful for your build.
Defeat Crucible Wraiths
Crucible Wraiths are elite versions of enemies that you’ll fight in each region of the map, and they’ll frequently drop Yokai Teardrops.
Luckily, beating Crucible Wraiths is not usually much more difficult than beating the standard version of the enemy, so clearing them off the map isn’t necessarily a major test of mettle.
Clear Crucible Spikes and Lesser Crucibles
Crucible Spikes and Lesser Crucibles are commonly blocking your path through areas in each Nioh 3 region. Defeating the enemies at these locations and clearing away the spikes is an easy way to earn Yokai Teardrops.
Clearing Crucible Spikes and Lesser Crucibles will provide bonuses to your character and increase your total exploration level of a region. So, even if you’re not looking for Yokai Teardrops, you won’t want to skip these!
Defeat Bloodedge Demons
If you regularly summon Revenants from blood graves you encounter throughout your travels, you’ll eventually begin being notified that a Bloodedge Demon has been summoned on the map. You can follow the directional clues to reach this extraordinarily challenging boss. Defeating it in combat will usually reward you with some excellent loot, including a chance at Yokai Teardrops.
Be aware that taking down a Bloodedge Demon isn’t easy. As a matter of fact, it can feel overwhelming at lower levels, making it best saved for farming once you’re much more confident and have a build that can dish out devastating damage.
Catch Scampusses
As you travel around Nioh 3’s maps, you’ll encounter tiny, round cat-like yokai called Scampusses. Interacting with them will trigger a chase–often requiring a bit of platforming–that will usually take a minute or so to complete. Once you’ve tracked down the Scampuss, you can pet it to receive either Ninja’s Locks or Samurai’s Locks. In our experience, Scampusses also frequently provided Yokai Teardrops, making tracking them all down worthwhile for the aforementioned general progression items and Yokai Teardrops.
As a side note, Scampusses will also give you Scampuss Furballs, which you can take to the giant Scampuss in the Eternal Rift to earn some extra rewards during your journey.
Complete Myths
Myths are Nioh 3’s sidequests and can be found in numerous locations throughout the game. Rewards vary for completion, but Yokai Teardrops may be included, making it worth completing them as you go.
Finishing these optional missions can be beneficial in other ways, too, providing extra experience or key items that open new paths to more challenging foes.
