Oblivion Remastered Gets Switch 2 Release Date

After a few months of radio silence and an ambiguous “it’ll come out when it’s ready” vibe from Bethesda, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered officially has a Switch 2 release date.

The remaster of the 2006 RPG classic is coming to Switch 2 on August 11, and Bethesda and Nintendo announced it with a video showing a guy dressed up as the Adoring Fan character who worships the ground you walk on trying his best to hype up an Oblivion player while he does mundane things like grocery shopping and brushing his teeth. I appreciate your moral support, Adoring Fan, even if no one else does.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered originally launched last year on PC, PS5, and Xbox, and reminded a lot of folks that Oblivion is better than Skyrim, actually, but it also launched with a fair bit of Bethesda bugginess. Now, just over a year later, you can play the game from the comfort of your bed, toilet, and morning commute. Maybe it will keep you occupied as we continue the long, long wait for The Elder Scrolls VI.

Despite the remaster’s success last year, Virtuos, the support team that helped develop the game alongside Bethesda, was hit with layoffs shortly after launch. The studio has also worked with companies like CD Projekt RED on further support for Cyberpunk 2077 after most of the company’s internal developers have moved onto other projects like The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2.
