The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2 runs pretty well and looks solid on Nintendo’s console. You’d think fans would be happy about that, and to be fair, many are pleased, but some are annoyed that this new port, to their eyes, seems better-optimized than what’s available on other platforms. And Bethesda has noticed, and is promising more updates for Oblivion Remastered.
On August 11, Bethesda brought Oblivion Remastered, the Unreal Engine 5-powered remaster of its classic open-world RPG, to Switch 2. Last year, Oblivion Remastered was a smash hit on PS5, Xbox, and PC, becoming one of the best-selling games of the year despite being a fancy-looking version of a game from 2006.
However, the remaster was a mess at launch, with numerous bugs, crashing issues, and performance problems. It also looked quite blurry and ugly on the Series S. And after two patches from Bethesda, Oblivion Remastered is, a year later, still kind of a mess on those platforms. Fans have been rightfully annoyed that Oblivion Remastered hasn’t received a new update since July 2025, leaving the RPG in a bad state as reported by Digital Foundry.
So when the Switch 2 port arrived on Monday, and it seemed to work pretty well on the Switch 2’s not-super-powerful hardware, some players were very upset that it seemingly got the optimizations the other platforms still need a year later.
Now, to be clear: The Switch 2 port of Oblivion isn’t perfect, either. It has some annoying frame-pacing issues and bugs, too. But thanks to some further optimizations involving draw distances and detail, it seems to be mostly stable. And thanks to Switch 2’s use of Nvidia silicon, Oblivion Remastered is using DLSS upscaling tech and looks sharper than the Series S version of the RPG. DLSS can’t be ported over to the other console versions of the game, as PlayStation and Xbox use AMD hardware. Still, fans want the other optimizations incorporated into a long-awaited third patch for Oblivion. And it sounds like that’s going to happen, actually.
“We’ve heard your feedback asking for an additional patch for Oblivion Remastered,” posted Bethesda via Twitter on August 12.
“The Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game has a number of optimizations that we are looking into bringing to other platforms, and we will share more when we are able.”
Another problem players are complaining about in the comments: They can’t even buy the game. The physical version of Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2 has been praised by many, as the cart contains the full game. However, it seems Bethesda underestimated how many people wanted a physical copy of the remaster, as many are reporting that stores are sold out entirely. Even sites like Amazon and Walmart are currently sold out. The company promised on Twitter that more copies are set to arrive at retailers later this month.
Hopefully by then there will be a patch out for all platforms to help fix lingering issues and make the remaster a better experience.
