Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 May Be the One Game GTA 6 Can’t Touch

Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 May Be the One Game GTA 6 Can’t Touch

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of the most beloved games in the series, and its official Switch 2 remake might actually be the one game that can bypass Grand Theft Auto 6‘s claim over 2026’s final months. The wait for GTA 6 has been years in the making, but a new and improved version of Ocarina of Time is bound to take over Nintendo diehards’ attention if the two come out around the same time. Nintendo announced the remake only a little more than a month ago, but it already has Legend of Zelda fans eager to see more of what the game has to offer.

There are a lot of big releases coming in the near future. Games like Marvel’s Wolverine, The Blood of Dawnwalker, and Control Resonant are just a few of the titles set to launch in September. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Phantom Blade Zero, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and Gears of War: E-Day release dates are all slated for October, but there is a noticeable drop-off on the calendar once November hits. If Nintendo plans on releasing the Switch 2’s Ocarina of Time remake around this time, stepping foot in GTA 6‘s territory is unlikely to hurt it.

The Only Fix The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Really Needs

Ocarina of Time never bothered me much as a kid, but its Switch 2 remake has no excuse to preserve the headaches I was too young to notice.

The Ocarina of Time Remake Might Be the Only Game That Doesn’t Have to Worry About Grand Theft Auto 6

So far, Nintendo has only released a small teaser trailer for Ocarina of Time on the Switch 2, but rumors have begun to suggest that there is another reveal on the horizon. Leaks have claimed that Nintendo plans to unveil further details on September 9. Claims like these should be taken with a grain of salt, but that would also make sense, considering that the game is expected to launch before 2026 comes to a close.

The year is already over halfway finished, so the clock is ticking on Nintendo’s launch window possibilities. These aforementioned leaks claim that Nintendo’s next reveal will be of official Ocarina of Time remake gameplay. Many Legend of Zelda fans have been dying to see how the remake plays, so these leaks hopefully turn out to be true. It would also be the perfect opportunity to reveal the release date.

The Ocarina of Time Remake Coming Out Late 2026 Just Makes Sense

Beyond the September gameplay reveal rumors, GameStop also accidentally leaked the Ocarina of Time remake pre-order date. GameStop’s official page for the remake was updated to reveal that pre-orders go live on August 4, but it was quickly removed from the site. It’s very possible that this was simply a mistake and an inaccurate date was added to the page. However, if pre-orders actually do happen to go live on August 4 and Nintendo reveals gameplay footage on September 9, then these two events would more than likely be paving the way for a late 2026 launch.

Other Legend of Zelda rumors have claimed that two other games besides the Ocarina of Time remake are also in the works. If true, one project is alleged to be a 2D spin-off starring Ganondorf as the main character, and the other could potentially be a new open-world game like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

It feels unlikely that Nintendo would shadow drop the Ocarina of Time remake, but nothing is impossible. However, September and October might actually be worse launch windows than November. A new Legend of Zelda game doesn’t really have to worry about competing with September and October’s offerings, but the calendar is simply becoming far too crowded with big names. Adding another one to the mix would be overkill.

Grand Theft Auto 6 and Ocarina of Time Launching in November Would Mean Sharing the Spotlight Instead of Being Competition

First and foremost, there is no overlap when it comes to the platforms that these games are releasing on. Obviously, the Ocarina of Time remake is a Switch 2 exclusive, and GTA 6 is coming to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. There are bound to be gamers who are anticipating both titles, but it’s not going to be big enough of a crossover to affect either games’ sales performance. Switch 2 and Legend of Zelda loyalists will line up for the remake, while PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players who love Rockstar will be ready to jump into a new GTA game.

The November/December Dead Zone Is Actually Great News for Ocarina of Time

The GTA 6 release date has created a situation that mutually benefits Rockstar and Nintendo. No other developer wants to even think about going near November 19, but Nintendo is well aware that the company boasts its own ecosystem that keeps it safe from any major outside competition. Both games will have plenty of space to breathe and have great success.

GTA 6‘s sales are bound to tower over the Ocarina of Time remake, but Nintendo’s exclusivity and specific niche gives the company the privilege of not having to care in the first place. If Nintendo actually is planning a November or December release date, it would be an incredibly powerful move on Nintendo’s part.

Nintendo hasn’t revealed the official Ocarina of Time remake price, but leaks have claimed the game could retail for $60. This should be met with skepticism, though. GTA 6‘s price is confirmed to be $80 for the Standard Edition, while the Ultimate Edition is $100 and includes extra in-game content like shops, cosmetics, and even side quests.

Right now, all that Legend of Zelda fans waiting for more Ocarina of Time news can do is sit and wait to see what Nintendo decides to do. A September/October release is still always possible, but aiming for the November/December window might ultimately work more in the game’s favor. This sounds silly when considering how many other games have purposefully avoided a November/December release, but Ocarina of Time has the benefit of being one of the most beloved games in a series that resonates with multiple generations of gamers.
