Official Free Silent Hill f DLC Available Right Now

Official Free Silent Hill f DLC Available Right Now

Publisher Konami has released a new DLC for Silent Hill f, and it’s one horror fans may have seen coming. Better yet, the Silent Hill f DLC is available now, adding yet another connection between two of gaming’s most iconic Japanese horror franchises (and two series that have often been compared by fans).

Earlier this year, Konami teamed up with Koei Tecmo to release a horror crossover between Silent Hill f DLC and Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake. Said update let players dress up protagonist Mio Amakura in Silent Hill f protagonist Shimizu Hinako’s core school uniform outfit, while also giving both Mio and her twin sister Mayu Hinako’s Fox Mask. Now, it seems it’s Koei Tecmo’s turn to scratch Konami’s back.

It’s Official: The Next Silent Hill Game Now Has a Release Date

Silent Hill: Townfall’s release date has been revealed, and fans don’t have to wait long for the next game in Konami’s horror franchise.

New Silent Hill f x Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake Crossover DLC

Silent Hill f‘s Crimson Butterfly DLC is a free costume based on Mio Amakura that’s available now across all platforms. The free costume dresses Hinako in Mio Amakura’s signature outfit, allowing players to experience Silent Hill f while paying tribute to another classic horror game. While purely cosmetic, it’s an easy fit given how often the two franchises have been compared to one another. There’s no new story or gameplay content, but free’s free, so it’s hard to be mad at even the slightest reason to replay Silent Hill f (especially with all the available endings). This DLC is presumably the end of this tit-for-tat crossover, but perhaps the two companies are building toward something bigger, although this is whimsical speculation at this time.

To use this costume, players must access a Hokora and select Change Costume from the menu. Update to Patch 1.20 or later is required.

The DLC is a small incentive to play again, as well as to play for the first time—especially for Fatal Frame 2 fans. On that topic, it’s worth mentioning that Silent Hill f is currently on sale as part of Steam’s Summer Sale and can be picked up at 50% off (bringing its price to $34.99). If anyone has been waiting for a sale, then there’s not likely to be a better time soon, so it’d be best to act quickly before the Summer Sale ends on July 9. There’s even a more expensive bundle that includes both Silent Hill f and Fatal Frame 2 Remake if someone is brand new to the franchises.

For players already making their way through Silent Hill f, the crossover is an easy excuse to jump back into the game’s world. And for longtime fans of Fatal Frame, it’s another reminder that the franchise continues to leave its mark on modern horror games—even if it’s through collaborations like this one. It’s a small addition, but one that celebrates two survival horror series that have spent decades scaring players in very different ways.

Since Fatal Frame debuted in 2001, many horror fans have compared it to Silent Hill thanks to its slower pace, psychological storytelling, and atmosphere. The biggest difference, of course, is Fatal Frame‘s Camera Obscura combat system, which has become the series’ defining mechanic. Even so, both franchises have remained staples of the survival horror genre for more than two decades, making this collaboration feel like a natural fit.
