Overwatch Players Aren’t Happy With New Season 2 Hero

Overwatch Players Aren’t Happy With New Season 2 Hero

Sierra, the new hero in Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 2, is officially live, but fans are saying her Trailblazer ultimate is overpowered, and needs to be nerfed. The new Overwatch hero has only been out for about a day as of press time, but players are already fed up with how powerful Sierra is.

On April 14, Overwatch released Reign of Talon Season 2: Summit. This update introduced tons of new features, but one of the biggest changes came in the form of Sierra, a Recon damage hero. Using her Anchor Drone, Dorothy, Sierra can zip across the battlefield, lining herself up for Tracking Shots to allow her Helix Rifle to home in on targets, and Tremor Charges to damage large groups.

Sierra’s Ultimate in Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 2 is ‘Busted’

However, it is Sierra’s ultimate, Trailblazer, that has seemingly drawn the attention of the community. Overwatch fans like Void_entity94 took to Reddit to express their dissatisfaction with the new Overwatch hero, saying the developers “weren’t joking” about Trailblazer. Many others agreed, with over 2,700 upvotes and 300 comments on the post in less than a day, most of which discussed how “busted” she is.

When Sierra uses her Trailblazer ultimate in Overwatch, she throws Dorothy forward to drop 23 bombs; the higher the drone is thrown, the wider the spread of the explosives. Each bomb deals between 72 and 180 damage, depending on how close characters are to the center of the projectile. Dorothy flies very fast, making it difficult to react in time to avoid the damage, especially in small corridors. Considering most players will often be hit by more than one explosive, Trailblazer can easily be a death sentence with little counterplay for squishy heroes, and even most tanks can quickly melt under Sierra’s bombing run. What’s more, Trailblazer only requires 1800 ultimate charge, meaning she can ready the ability rather quickly, especially if she lands a few Tracking Shots.

Heroes being overpowered on launch is nothing new to most PvP games, including Overwatch. For example, Vendetta has been terrorizing Overwatch since her introduction in Season 20 last year, despite catching several nerfs. Even so, when compared to similar ultimates like Hanzo’s Dragonstrike – which deals even more damage in a line, albeit with a slower trajectory – Sierra’s Trailblazer is better in most situations due to its raw firepower and speed.

Though Overwatch previously held hero trials for upcoming characters to get a handle on their balance, the faster release cadence in Reign of Talon means there is no time for pre-launch buffs or nerfs anymore. This also means more characters will likely end up being over- or under-tuned on release. Luckily, Overwatch is pretty quick to put in small numerical tweaks, especially when certain heroes are dominating the playing field. Fans should not be surprised if Sierra gets a few preliminary nerfs within the next week or two, with more substantial balance adjustments during the midseason update in May.
