Overwatch’s New Map Adds Game’s Most Embarrassing Way To Die

Overwatch’s New Map Adds Game’s Most Embarrassing Way To Die

With over 50 heroes on the roster, there are a lot of ways you can die in Overwatch. Bullets, bludgeoning, being bumped off the side of a bridge, or getting hit by a car are just a few ways I can think of off the top of my head. However, environmental hazards are not limited to giant chasms you can fall into or cars going over the speed limit; thanks to the game’s newest map, they also include bees.

Neon Junction is Overwatch’s new Hybrid map, which is set in Japan, in keeping with the current story arc focusing on Shion and the Hashimoto clan. The stage is covered in Japanese iconography, such as references to the Gundam anime in the form of a giant not-Gundam statue in the street, but it also has a small building in which you can find some wooden beehives.

At a glance, they just look like set dressing, but if you choose to attack the structures with your weapon or abilities, the bees will rush out of their home and sting you. And yes, their stingers do actual damage to your health bar, though it’s pretty minimal. You kinda have to just stand there and let them prick your skin for it to really register. However, if you head into this spot with low health seeking shelter after a tough fight, it’s entirely possible that the bees may soon be popping up on the kill feed for taking you out.

Living in the south where my family’s home was basically in the woods, I was always taught that if I didn’t bother bees they wouldn’t bother me, but as a snot-nosed brat I had to verify this for myself and went and waved my hand around a group of bees to see if they’d sting me, and guess what, they did. Now, viewers, here we have a classic example of “fuck around and find out.” These lessons are universal and also apply to Overwatch. Leave them bees alone, kids. Your K/D ratio will thank you.
