Path of Exile 2 officially confirms the release date for update 1.0, shares the gameplay trailer for a new class and new skills, and reveals free rewards for all players. Path of Exile 2 has been hyping up its new reveal at Gamescom Opening Night Live, with another showcase happening on August 27. Fans have been speculating that the next update would include not only a new class, but also a new weapon and plenty of brand-new skills. Sure enough, that’s what is happening later this year, with even more releases on the way.

Path of Exile 2 came out in early access on December 6, 2026, and it allowed players to try out the massively overhauled systems from its predecessors with keys from Supporter Packs. As such, it wasn’t free-to-play like PoE 1, disappointing some veterans and newcomers alike. The game has evolved even further in the last two years, and recently, GGG managed to fix a huge Path of Exile 2 NVIDIA crash bug by shipping a full computer setup to the company for its engineers to look at. Now, almost exactly two years after the game first debuted, patch 1.0 is coming out.

Path of Exile 2 Officially Brings Back Iconic PoE Duelist Class and Skill, Announces Major Update For December

Path of Exile 2 just revealed a massive update launching on December 11, 2026, featuring the full 1.0 release, a new character inspired by PoE‘s Duelist class, the debut of swords as weapons, new skills, and free rewards for players to claim. Among the new skills of the arena-themed Duelist class and the sword weapon is Cyclone, one of the most iconic and beloved skills from the first game, this time also coming with projectiles and additional effects. This is the first time swords are being used in the game, and some older skills may come back alongside Cyclone, such as Lacerate and Dual Strike. On top of that, players can also get free rewards in PoE 2 by registering their email address on the official website, including the Soulframe Crown Helmet Attachment, Soulflame Weapon Effect, Soulflame Portal, Chained Chimera Wings, and Scourgeborn Boar Pet. These are community milestones, though, and to unlock them all, fans need to register a total of five million email addresses.

Path of Exile 2 Update 1.0 Features at a Glance

  • New Class: Path of Exile 2 is adding the Duelist as a new class. This will inevitably reshape Path of Exile 2‘s skill tree, adding new nodes and Ascendancy Classes for the Duelist.
  • New Weapon and Skills: Path of Exile 2‘s 1.0 update is debuting swords, introducing many new skills. The Gamescom trailer provides a glimpse at them, with the most recognizable being Cyclone. Lacerate also seems to be in the game, and possibly Dual Strike.
  • Stance Mechanics: The update seems to add Stances, giving sword Skill Gems new effects based on the Stance used.

Some of the best Druid builds in Path of Exile 2 dominated the latest 0.5 release of the game, but update 1.0 promises a lot of new features with the debut of swords and the Duelist class. Considering that Cyclone was already a fan-favorite skill in the first game, it could become even more loved in its new iteration. This is because the Duelist in Path of Exile 2 is likely to have Stances, like the first game’s Blood and Sand and Flesh and Stone Stances, which seem to affect Cyclone’s behavior. A blood-themed effect allows Cyclone to shoot projectiles, whereas a desert-themed effect makes Cyclone leave smaller AoE damage pools in its path. All this and more will debut on December 11, but fans should tune in on August 27 for more news.

It’s unclear whether Path of Exile 2‘s crafting system will be affected by the changes in the 1.0 update, but even if not, fans will be able to find and then customize swords for the very first time. As strange as it sounds, the game never had swords up to this point, but they seem to be debuting in great style.

Path of Exile 2‘s Breach, Delirium, and other League mechanics will still be present in 1.0, but it’s currently unclear if they will undergo any changes. While the Duelist has been confirmed, its Ascendancy Classes remain under wraps, and GGG may reveal them as soon as August 27.
