PC Gamers Have Until August 11 to Claim Open World Game Completely Free of Charge

An indie PC game called Boots Quest DX, described as a hand-drawn open-world adventure, is free to claim and keep until August 11. What makes this offer even more interesting for PC gamers is that Boots Quest DX has a perfect 100% positive rating on Steam, although it has only a limited number of user reviews at the time of writing.

Boots Quest DX normally costs about $10, giving free PC game hunters another good reason to take advantage of this giveaway. Solo developer Harrison Lemke released the game in 2022, and it has since built a small but dedicated fanbase that enjoys its quirky premise and eccentric gameplay.

Steam Users Have Limited Time to Claim 2026 Roguelike Completely Free of Charge

Steam gamers can currently pick up a 2026 roguelike for free, but only for a very limited time.

Boots Quest DX Is Free to Keep Right Now

Until August 11, PC users with an itch.io account can claim Boots Quest DX for free and keep it forever with no strings attached. According to the developer, “Boots Quest DX is a low-key, offbeat adventure about traveling to the ends of the earth in search of the Best Boots.” It is a hand-drawn game with a small but open-world map filled with secrets and collectibles.

The goal in Boots Quest DX is simple. Players explore the world in search of the perfect pair of boots for the protagonist. Along the way, they meet new people, overcome obstacles, and complete numerous side quests, which form the core of the gameplay. Unlike many 2D puzzle games, however, Boots Quest DX features a cozy setting and offers a relaxed, no-pressure experience.

Music is one of Boots Quest DX‘s biggest selling points. Fans describe the soundtrack as nostalgic and soothing, perfectly complementing the game’s bittersweet, melancholic atmosphere. Interestingly, the solo developer also composed the music with help from a couple of other musicians. One Steam user described the game as “a good-natured comedy-adventure with an OST full of warm, saturated 4-track psychedelia tunes.”

Speaking of Steam, Boots Quest DX has just over 60 user reviews on the platform, all of them positive. As a result, the game currently holds a rare 100% positive rating, suggesting it could be a must-play for fans of artistic games with unconventional stories. It’s also one of those games that can run on virtually any PC or gaming laptop. The base download size is just 65 MB, and its system requirements are modest enough to support even hardware from 10 or 15 years ago.

Other Free-to-Keep Games for PC in August 2026

Beyond the official giveaways on Steam and Epic Games Store, PC users can currently claim several other games for free. For example, players can grab the 2026 roguelike called Dome: Become Thyself for free before it transitions to a paid title on Valve’s storefront. There’s also Mystic Depths: The Corrupted King on Steam, which previously cost $11.99 but is now free for all users. In the coming days, Moonlighter and Deponia are also expected to become free to keep on Steam, although the exact date has not been announced at the time of writing.

Some of these games may no longer be free by the time you’re reading this, as many of these offers are available for a limited time or are subject to changes on their respective storefronts.
