PlayStation 5 Update Quietly Adds a New Feature

PlayStation 5 Update Quietly Adds a New Feature

PlayStation 5 users have been surprised by a new quality-of-life feature added to the console that’s quite similar to Sony’s official annual wrap-up stats. While the PlayStation 5 has received several new features since its release, they haven’t exactly been a regular part of every system update. Sony is famous for adding or removing features after careful consideration, which may explain why many fans are surprised to see a brand-new feature pop up on their consoles out of nowhere.

Right now, the hottest topic within the PlayStation community is Sony’s decision to discontinue discs in 2028. A large part of the user base doesn’t want to accept this decision and is trying to convince Sony to reverse it. Perhaps part of the reason why some players haven’t noticed the PS5’s new feature yet is that most people online are focused on the future of physical media in the gaming industry, leaving little room to discuss things like new QoL features.

Study Reveals PS5 Discs Are Much Cheaper Than Digital Games

A brand-new study reveals a significant price difference between PS5 discs sold by retailers and their digital counterparts on the PS Store.

PlayStation 5 Gets Weekly Wrap-Ups

Normally, PlayStation users need to wait for Sony’s official annual wrap-up feature to go live to see their most-played games, how many trophies they have earned, and their total playtime. However, PS5’s new weekly wrap-up feature makes that wait unnecessary. The new QoL widget appears to stay on the Welcome Hub at all times and show the most important details about the user’s data on a weekly basis: new trophies, total playtime, and the most-played game.

It also appears that Sony has been rolling out the feature more like an over-the-air (OTA) update rather than including it in a system update. Several fans have noticed it appearing on their Welcome Hub out of nowhere, while some have claimed that it has been available for a while now. This also indicates that the Japanese company may be adding it region by region or testing it on specific consoles before officially introducing it. Whatever the case may be, some PS5 users can now see their weekly gaming stats without having to rely on third-party tools or Sony’s official wrap-up website, which should be a positive change overall.

The weekly wrap-up widget isn’t the only new feature added to the PS5’s Welcome Hub in recent months. Back in May 2026, some fans got to test the PS5’s experimental player-count display, which appeared to be inspired by Valve’s Steam Charts page. It showed trending games and titles with the highest player counts, making it a first among most other major video game consoles.

If fan reactions on social media are anything to go by, many PS5 users seem to be happy with the new weekly wrap-up feature, with those who don’t have it appearing excited about its addition. That said, those who are actively fighting back against PlayStation’s no-disc policy seem to be unimpressed by the new widget, to say the least. They believe Sony might be attempting to shift attention away from its recent changes, while those who review the widget on its own merit think it is still a cool addition that can improve the gaming experience for PS5 users.
