PlayStation Player Becomes First Person to Unlock a Certain Platinum Trophy After 13 Years

A PlayStation gamer has pulled off an extremely impressive feat in unlocking the Platinum Trophy in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus. While plenty of PlayStation games have difficult Platinum Trophies to earn, this marks the first time on record that a player has legitimately earned the Platinum in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus.

The Ninja Gaiden franchise has a reputation, in part, due to the extreme difficulty that the games can present. For some players, simply getting to the end of any Ninja Gaiden game is enough of a challenge, but there are also those who want to push themselves to the absolute limit. For those kinds of players, there’s an even more difficult challenge in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus that has to be cleared in order to earn the Platinum Trophy, but it seems it’s proven to be too much for the vast majority of those who played it.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus released 13 years ago for the PS Vita, but in all that time, no one has officially unlocked the Platinum Trophy in the game — until now. On March 28, 2026, a Japanese gamer called Tqvry streamed themselves attempting this challenge, and successfully completed it. The feat was no simple task, taking the player a year and eight months to successfully run from start to finish, with the final stream showcasing the achievement being 10 hours all on its own. According to PSNProfiles, this player is now the first and only one to unlock the Platinum in this game, whereas the PS3 version of the game has seen over 2,000 people unlock the Platinum. While that’s still not a very high number, there are some good reasons for the disparity between the two.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus‘ Dynamic Duo Trophy requires players to clear the game on Turbo mode with a co-op partner. Turbo mode alone means playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus at 1.5x the usual speed in an already fast-paced game, but the co-op partner is where the real difficulty lies. Unlike other versions of the game, the PS Vita version doesn’t have an online play option, so players have to complete the challenge with an NPC backing them up. Between the potential for frame rate drops on the weaker hardware of the PS Vita and the co-op NPC sometimes being more of a hindrance than a help, it seems that most players gave up on ever completing the challenge and earning the Platinum years ago.

Tqvry’s 10-hour stream showcased the final mission they needed to complete in order to earn the Platinum Trophy, which was a boss fight pitting three bosses against the player and their NPC support. Tqvry learned the best way to use their partner to their benefit, which largely meant turning them into a distraction while the player focused on a single boss. However, it still took ten hours, and even then, an unintentional glitch was ultimately responsible for giving Tqvry the advantage they needed. During the winning attempt, one of the three bosses somehow got stuck in the ground, dramatically reducing the risk to the player, who now only had to deal with two bosses actively fighting them.

Now that Tqvry has set this record, it’s possible that a challenger could come along and usurp it at some point. However, Tqvry will remain legendary in the PlayStation Trophy hunting community for being the first to pull it off, and with proof to back it up. It remains to be seen if Tqvry will set any further records like this, though they do have a history of dedicated gameplay. According to their PSNProfiles account, the gamer has also unlocked 100% completion in 208 other games since 2018, when their account on the site was created. For now, though, they deserve a moment to bask in a well-earned victory over Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus.
