Pokemon Fan Art Imagines Incredible Redesigns for Generation 1 Favorites

A talented Pokemon fan online has shared their impressive redesigns of a bunch of Generation 1 favorites. Most of the Generation 1 Pokemon designs have remained untouched for years, and these fan-made redesigns give them a much-needed refresh while keeping their original charm intact.

Over the years, the Pokemon fanbase has constantly produced some of the most unique and interesting fan art of any community. At this point, there are over 1000 Pokemon designs across nine Generations, so fans certainly aren’t short of inspiration. It’s always interesting to see how fans use their own talents to pay homage to the long-running franchise. While some fans choose to create their own Pokemon, others put their own spins on existing ones to give them a fresh coat of paint. Others use their talents to create real-life Pokemon memorabilia, while others go as far as to create entire Pokemon fan games to play through. Given how the franchise continues to go from strength to strength, players shouldn’t expect these types of fan creations to slow down any time soon.

Pokemon Fan Art Answers the Question: What if Unova Starters Were from Gen 1?

A Pokemon fan artist shows fellow trainers what it could have been like if Unova starters Snivy, Oshawott, and Tepig were in the Gen 1 games.

This Pokemon Fan Art Puts a Fresh Spin on Iconic Gen 1 Designs

Over on TikTok, talented artist pokeeprof shared their awesome redesigns of a bunch of Pokemon Generation 1 favorites, including Grimer, Muk, Meowth, Persian, Horsea, Seadra, Machop, Machoke, Machamp, Gastly, Haunter, Gengar, Tentacool, Tentacruel, Poliwag, Poliwhirl, Poliwrath, Psyduck, Golduck, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and Mew. Despite there being so many of these redesigns, each add a ton of detail to the originals, and many are overhauled quite drastically. And although some of them are heavily changed, it’s still clear which Pokemon is which from Generation 1, which is a testament to how pokeeprof has managed to retain the spirit of each of them without adhering too closely to their original designs. Fans in the comments were universally positive about the designs, with one user asking, “Can you make a game?!” However, pokeeprof claims this is “not in my skill set.”

Later this year, Generation 1 will turn 30 years old. As a result, fans have had more time with these designs than any other. They’re very iconic, which makes them a very frequent target for fan art, more than any other Generation. There was even one Pokemon fan that fused every Gen 1 design into one creature, which was a sight to behold. And while many of these classic Pokemon have had new forms in recent Generations, some are still yet to receive this treatment, making them particular targets for this type of fan redesign. The longer these classic designs go without official new forms, the more fans want them and take it upon themselves to create them.

With 2026 marking the 30th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise, it should be a massive year for fans. The Pokemon Company has yet to reveal exactly what it has planned, but it’s rumored that 2026 could finally see the release of the long-awaited Generation 10, allegedly named Pokemon Wind and Wave. Details about Generation 10 have been sparse, and Game Freak has remained tight-lipped on when fans can expect to see it. Hopefully, more official details will be revealed sooner rather than later. Fans should keep a particular eye on Pokemon Day, which is on February 27, 2026, which could shed more light on what The Pokemon Company has planned to celebrate the franchise hitting the 30 year milestone.
