Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Player Defeats the Elite Four Using Just 1 Caterpie

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Player Defeats the Elite Four Using Just 1 Caterpie

A clever Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen player has managed to take down the Elite Four using just a single Caterpie. The user spent days trying to complete this Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen challenge, and their efforts were finally rewarded after they defeated the Elite Four and inducted their Caterpie into the Hall of Fame.

In late February 2026, Game Freak and Nintendo announced that Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen were coming to the Nintendo Switch as part of the franchise’s 30th anniversary celebrations. The Gen 1 remakes are over 22 years old at this point, and these re-releases are the first time gamers have had the opportunity to play them on a platform beyond the Game Boy Advance. This has directly led to a huge resurgence in popularity for the games, especially as hype for the wider Pokemon franchise continues to grow after the announcement of Gen 10.

Your Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Starter Has a Major Consequence (And One Option is Much Worse Than the Others)

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen’s starters are not equal, and choosing one of them will have worse consequences in the late game.

Gamer Beats Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Elite Four With a Shiny Caterpie

Redditor anonimoo008 shared their impressive Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen achievement, after managing to defeat the Elite Four with just a single Caterpie. Not just any Caterpie: a shiny one at that. In the post, they claimed they planned to drop the challenge after finding it to be “a pain,” but came back to it after some rest to tackle it. Other posts showed that they spent days trying to defeat the Elite Four, and perseverance prevailed as they finally found a way to overcome all the battles. Their reward was to finally see their Caterpie enter the Hall of Fame, which admittedly looks very funny on its own.

According to the user, their shiny Caterpie was Level 100, giving them the best chance of battling through the challenges presented by Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen‘s Elite Four. Their Pokemon held Leftovers as their item, and their primary damage dealer was the Struggle move. It had the Adamant nature, which increases its Attack by 10% but decreases its Special Attack by the same amount.

Pokemon challenges have always existed in every game. Players always look for new and unique ways to beat the game, which helps to keep them feeling fresh well after their release. The Nintendo Switch re-release of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen has been no different; gamers have wasted no time in getting to work on beating the game’s toughest challenges in interesting ways. There was another Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen player who beat the Elite Four using a “barely functional” team, and there will no doubt be plenty more gamers who seek out these kinds of challenges in the future.

Following the successful re-releases of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen and the strong reception to Pokopia, the Pokemon franchise is on a hot streak as it celebrates its 30th anniversary. Last month, Game Freak also revealed Pokemon Winds and Waves, the long-awaited Gen 10 titles in the series. Gamers will be able to get their hands on the two Gen 10 titles in 2027.
