Pokemon Pokopia Smashes Another Major Milestone

Pokemon Pokopia, the cozy life-sim that sees players assuming the role of a shape-shifting Ditto, has officially sold over five million copies. While Pokemon games tend to sell well, this is still a major and impressive milestone for Pokemon Pokopia, with the game being exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, a console that’s still relatively young.

Along with being an overt commercial success, Pokemon Pokopia managed to win the hearts of critics back when it launched at the start of March. Over on OpenCritic, Pokopia is sitting at a Top Critic Average of 89 and a critic recommendation score of 97%, making it the 6th highest-rated 2026 game on the platform. In GameRant’s Pokemon Pokopia review, Dalton Cooper gave the cozy game a 9/10, and said it’s “as good as the best life-sims, and a must-buy for Switch 2 owners.”

Pokemon Pokopia Has Sold Over 5 Million Copies So Far

In a recent press release published by Business Wire, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company officially announced that Pokemon Pokopia has sold over five million copies since its launch on March 5, 2026, just a little over five months ago. This five million figure includes the total combined sales of both the physical and digital editions of Pokemon Pokopia around the globe.

In its recent Q1 FY2027 financial report, published just last week, Nintendo confirmed that Pokemon Pokopia had sold at least 3.68 million copies. This made it the 4th best-selling Nintendo Switch 2 game, coming just behind Pokemon Legends: Z-A (3.99 million copies sold), Donkey Kong Bananza (4.78 million sold), and Mario Kart World, which holds the number one spot comfortably with 15.39 million units sold. Updated figures for the rest of these games haven’t been officially detailed just yet, but it’s possible that Pokemon Pokopia has climbed the ranks and taken the number two spot from Donkey Kong Bananza.

While Pokopia‘s five million units is still greatly overshadowed by the sales numbers of mainline entries like Pokemon Scarlet & Violet (28.46 million), Pokemon Sword & Shield (27.26 million), and Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee (15.07 million), it’s leading the pack when it comes to Pokemon spinoffs. New Pokemon Snap, for instance, has sold 2.74 million units since its launch in 2022, and the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Switch remake sold just 1.99 million.

This official sales report comes just eight days after the launch of Pokemon Pokopia‘s first paid DLC. Titled ‘Bubbly Basin’, this DLC adds a new underwater area to Pokopia, complete with new building blocks, new Pokemon residents, and plenty of new cosmetic items. Two additional DLCs are planned for release in the near future, with all three being encompassed in Pokemon Pokopia‘s Expansion Pass. The second Pokopia DLC is set to launch in “late 2026” and will bring accessories that Pokemon can wear. The third Pokopia DLC will release sometime in 2027.
