Pokemon Prisme Features 4 Explorable Regions, With 2 More on the Way

A recently released English build of Pokemon Prisme features four massive regions to explore, with two more being on the way. Purely from a content volume perspective, this makes it one of the most impressive Pokemon fan games to date.

Pokemon Prisme should not be confused with Pokemon Prism. While they were released just several years apart, Prism is a Pokemon Crystal ROM hack made by solo developer Koolboyman. It was technically never finished because Nintendo hit it with a cease-and-desist letter in 2016, though it was subsequently leaked online. Conversely, Pokemon Prisme, with an “e,” is an ambitious fan game made by a developer collective called Team Nebula. It was originally launched for PC on March 24, 2012, but was only available in French.

Pokemon Prisme Now Available in English

Over 13 years later, Pokemon Prisme has been translated into English, with its international version available for download free of charge as of January 20. The game currently features four regions to explore, including Kanto and Johto, as well as the Sevii and Orange Archipelagos. Like that region list suggests, Prisme is an amalgamation of many popular pieces of Pokemon media, incorporating elements of Game Freak’s RPGs, Hidenori Kusaka’s manga, and The Pokemon Company’s anime.

  • Johto
  • Savii Archipelago
  • Orange Archipelago

Team Nebula has previously confirmed that two more regions are in the works: Hoenn and Sinnoh. However, the developer collective did not provide a timeline for their inclusion. Like the rest of the game, the upcoming regions will be free to play. While not-for-profit projects are not necessarily immune to copyright notices, Prisme has so far avoided the fate of Pokemon Prism, which Nintendo successfully shut down in 2016, sending a cease-and-desist letter after the ROM hack had spent eight years in development.

Pokemon Prisme’s 4 Regions Feature Standalone Storylines with Some Fresh Ideas

The four regions of Pokemon Prisme are largely self-contained, to the point that they almost could have been launched as separate games. The Kanto storyline plays with the Pokemon lore of Lavender Town, presenting a growing supernatural crisis centered on its iconic burial tower. Players are drawn into a mystery involving eerie melodies that supposedly drive people mad, as well as increasingly bold ghosts that no longer fear detection with the Silph Scope. The investigation into why the Pokemon Tower has become a focal point for such unrest and how the issue could affect the very foundations of the Pokemon League is the main focus of the Kanto storyline.

The Sevii Islands present a brighter, tropical front for what becomes an urgent race to deal with an extraterrestrial threat. Central to this Prisme storyline is the alien Pokemon Deoxys, first spotted by some sailors near Birth Island. The Sevii quest is presented as a time-sensitive pursuit to prevent a biological catastrophe that could expand far beyond the tropical archipelago. Over in Johto, Pokemon Prisme focuses on Team Rocket, showing an evolved organization with new leadership and emboldened, escalated ambitions.

Conversely, the Orange Islands questline shifts away from the classic get-all-gym-badges formula in favor of endurance-style challenges that test courage and skill. To that end, the entire region has been redesigned as a rite of passage, albeit with fairly chill tropical vibes. Beneath this exterior is a central mystery centered on an ancient Pokemon Master whose influence remains felt throughout the archipelago, leading players to rare regional Pokemon forms and long-forgotten battle techniques.

Team Nebula has confirmed that future Pokemon Prisme updates will be compatible with existing saves. The current version of the game features over 175 quests, more than 380 Pokemon, and online trading. Pokemon Prisme is presently only available for PC and the Steam Deck, though an Android version is also in the works as of early 2026, as per Team Nebula’s recent update.
