Pokemon announced the Storm Emerald expansion campaign, which will mark Mega Rayquaza’s debut in Pokemon Trading Card Game and Pokemon TCG Pocket throughout the rest of 2026. However, the upcoming Pokemon campaign will be released in Japan first before making its way West later in the fall.
Known as the Sky High Pokemon, Rayquaza first appeared in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire as a post-game encounter. Rayquaza was the box art legendary monster of Pokemon Emerald, which is considered the definitive edition of Pokemon‘s Gen 3 era. Rayquaza made its Pokemon TCG debut in the Pokemon TCG-e: EX Dragon series, which released in November 2023. Rayquaza is usually classified as a Colorless or Dragon-type Basic Pokemon with attacks that cost varying amounts of Fire or Lightning Energy.
Gigantic Pokemon Lilligant Plush Announced, And It’s Not Cheap
A huge plush of the Pokemon Lilligant that’s even bigger than the Pokemon in-game is going on sale, but it’s quite expensive.
Mega Rayquaza is Coming Soon to the Pokemon TCG
Fans of the legendary Rayquaza will soon have more physical and virtual cards to collect. The upcoming Pokemon TCG: Storm Emerald expansion will be titled Pokemon TCG: Delta Reign in the West. Pokemon TCG: Storm Emerald will launch on July 31 in Japan, while Pokemon TCG: Delta Reign will arrive in the West on November 6. However, Pokemon TCG Pocket players will not have to wait as long for the Ruler of the Skies expansion, which arrives globally on July 30. Both sets will feature Mega Rayquaza as the main card to chase, though The Pokemon Company did not reveal the statistics or moves of any cards from the upcoming expansions. Pokemon TCG: Delta Reign is part of the ongoing Mega Evolution series, which focuses on Mega-evolved Pokemon. It is currently unknown how many cards will be included in either the Delta Reign or the Ruler of the Sky sets.

By comparison, the base version of Rayquaza is available via the Pokemon TCG: Mega Evolution — Ascended Heroes set. The Pokemon TCG: Mega Evolution — Delta Reign expansion will arrive just a few months after the Pokemon TCG: 30th Celebration set launches on September 16. While Pokemon TCG expansions are usually released in Japan first before other territories, the 30th Celebration set will have a simultaneous global launch. Every Pokemon TCG: 30th Celebration pack will include a collectible foil Pikachu card, which has 30 unique designs. Other Pokemon from throughout the franchise, such as Ho-Oh, Miraidon, and Dialga will also be included in the 30th Celebration expansion. Additionally, the Pitch Black expansion set will arrive on July 17 to tide Pokemon TCG fans over.
However, given how popular Rayquaza has been since its debut, Delta Reign sets may be the target of Pokemon TCG card scalpers and resellers. The Pokemon Company and various retailers have made efforts to deter scalpers through various means. Since the Indianapolis Regional in late May, The Pokemon Company has enforced a ban on selling graded cards and high-value items at official Pokemon events moving forward.
Although Pokemon Winds and Waves may not launch until late 2027, the ongoing 30th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise will still see plenty of releases and trading card expansions to keep fans engaged. It remains to be seen how popular the Delta Reign expansion will be once it hits store shelves in North America this November.
