Pokemon TCG Live is Adding A New Game Mode

Pokemon TCG Live is adding a brand-new Build and Battle game mode, pitting players against one another using pre-built decks and a small selection of packs. The game mode is based on the physical TCG’s pre-release events and will debut with Pokemon TCG Live‘s next expansion.

Pokemon TCG Live offers plenty of different ways to experience the beloved card game. Fans can play the Pokemon TCG‘s Standard format in both ranked and non-ranked queues, alongside a casual queue for the Expanded format, which includes cards released as early as the TCG’s Black and White expansion. The online TCG also regularly debuts new Trainer Trials events for players to try out, featuring a variety of deckbuilding restrictions. Now, the release of Chaos Rising in Pokemon TCG Live will welcome the addition of a brand-new sealed game mode.

Pokemon TCG Live Adds New Build and Battle Game Mode

  • Build and Battle: Players receive 40-card pre-built decks and four packs to upgrade their decks, then play up to five games
  • Event Tokens are used for entry, available in the in-game shop, through gifts or passcodes, and with physical Build and Battle Boxes
  • Chaos Rising: May 21, 5:00 P.M. UTC, through June 4, 5:00 P.M. UTC
  • Destined Rivals: June 4, 5:00 P.M. UTC, through June 6, 5:00 P.M. UTC
  • Twilight Masquerade: June 6, 5:00 P.M. UTC, through June 8, 5:00 P.M. UTC
  • Perfect Order: June 8, 5:00 P.M. UTC, through June 18, 5:00 P.M. UTC

Pokemon TCG Live will officially add Build and Battle as its first limited-style game mode with the release of Chaos Rising. Players can redeem Event Tokens to participate in a Build and Battle event, receiving a 40-card deck built around a specific Pokemon or playstyle to use alongside four packs of the featured set. Players can swap cards in their deck with cards pulled from the packs in order to upgrade their decks before matching up with others participating in the event. Build and Battle runs will last five matches, earning packs and Trainer Points at the end based on their record during the run. Pokemon TCG Live will kick off its Build and Battle events with the release of Chaos Rising on May 21, running until June 4 and gifting fans with a free play every week.

Pokemon TCG Live isn’t stopping with its newest set, planning multiple future Build and Battle runs for past expansions. The conclusion of the Chaos Rising Build and Battle event on June 4 will usher in a new event for Destined Rivals, which will be available until June 6. Twilight Masquerade will receive a Build and Battle event after the conclusion of Destined Rivals on June 6, running until June 8, and a Perfect Order event will start after Twilight Masquerade on June 8, running until June 18. Each event will include at least one free run for fans, with Perfect Order featuring a new free run each week.

While Chaos Rising’s Build and Battle event will be completely new for many players, fans can already prepare for new events for past sets. The Pokemon TCG‘s Destined Rivals Build and Battle boxes featured four different pre-built decks based around its different themed trainers, including Misty, Ethan, and two Team Rocket decks. Twilight Masquerade included decks for the Festival Lead theme, Froslass and Munkidori, Infernape, and Tatsugiri. Perfect Order’s selection of pre-built decks centered on Serperior, Barbaracle, Tyrantrum, and Doublade.

The set will welcome multiple new Mega Pokemon to the TCG, including Mega Greninja ex and Mega Floette ex as two of the major highlights. Chaos Rising also includes several new Trainer cards based on characters appearing in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, with AZ, Emma, and Philippe set to appear.
