Pokemon Winds and Waves Fan Designs Their Own Take on Gecqua’s Evolution Line

An eager Pokemon Winds and Waves fan created their own interpretation of Gecqua’s evolution line. Gecqua is an upcoming Water-type Pokemon and is one of the three new Gen 10 starters, along with Browt (Grass) and Pombon (Fire). Ever since Pokemon Winds and Waves were announced in late February, developer Game Freak hasn’t revealed details about the starters’ evolutions, as well as details of the new monsters coming to the games.

According to Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ official Pokedex entries for the starters, Gecqua is known as the “Water Gecko Pokemon” that has the ability to launch water balls from its tail. Its highlight ability is Torrent, which allows it to increase the power of Water-type moves. Because Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ setting is heavily inspired by Southeast Asia, many fans have theorized that Gecqua and the other starter Pokemon’s evolution forms could be inspired by mythological creatures from the region.

As early as now, many Pokemon Winds and Waves fans have been sharing art based on the characters, including their versions of the Gen 10 starters’ evolutionary forms. A Reddit user called Serbero recently posted their rendition of Gecqua’s evolution, which they imagined as a Water-Psychic Pokemon as it evolves. Named Tailash and Shengong, Serbero’s Gecqua forms maintained the Pokemon’s signature eyelashes, while also giving them longer tails and more colorful details. Their design was inspired by the Chinese mythical dragon god Shenlong and the Balinese Legong dance, which is known for its complicated footwork and intricate finger movements.

In the comments, many Pokemon Winds and Waves fans praised the Reddit user’s work, with some hoping that the official Gecqua evolution would look similar to the fan art. A number of them appreciated that the fan-made Pokemon were Water and Psychic-types because it’s not common for starters. Other fan art of Gecqua’s evolution line have also imagined its next stages as Water-Psychic, and have similar lizard-like qualities as well.

Pokemon Winds and Waves Details So Far

As mentioned, Game Freak has yet to share extensive details about Pokemon Winds and Waves, but it could be spacing it out because of the games’ 2027 launch. Aside from the Gen 10 starters, Pokemon Winds and Waves also introduced special Pikachu variants named Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu, who are both wearing vacation clothes. Gameplay-wise, it’s still an open-world adventure around a new island, which is described as having a vast ocean and a lush environment with all kinds of Pokemon living in the area. Based on Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ reveal trailer, players can explore different terrains, like jungles and perhaps even an underwater spot, for a true tropical island experience.

While it’s true that the Gen 10 starters are hard-carrying the fans’ excitement for Pokemon Winds and Waves, there are still a lot of unanswered questions. For one, Pokemon Winds and Waves haven’t revealed its legendary box art Pokemon. In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the roles were filled by Miraidon and Koraidon, who are legendary Pokemon that are also used as motorcycles to go around Paldea. A possible theory is that Winds could feature a Flying-type Pokemon and Waves could go for a Water-type unit, which would make sense considering the themes of the upcoming titles. There are still a lot of months left before 2027, so fans will have to wait patiently for more details. Fortunately, games like Pokemon Pokopia and Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen are keeping a lot of them preoccupied as well.
