The Pokemon Company has given fans a new look at the Pokemon Winds and Waves Water starter Gecqua, teasing fans in a period where much news is not expected. While there are plenty of rumors and purported leaks around Pokemon Winds and Waves, the fact is the games do not release until 2027, and until fans know when exactly in 2027, news is going to be limited.
Of course, which starter to pick (at least for a first playthrough) is one of the biggest decisions players make in every game, and that remains true for Pokemon Winds and Waves. Each of the new starters—Grass-type Browt, Fire-type Pombon, and Water-type Gecqua—has their fans, and many are waiting to learn more before they lock in final decisions (at least some folks). While it’s not enough to convince anyone away from Browt or Pombon, if that’s the way they are leaning, the new look at Gecqua is appreciated at the very least.
Rumor: Pokemon Winds and Waves’ Final Starter Types Leaked
A new rumor details the final dual types of each of Pokemon Winds and Waves’ starters: Pombon, Gecqua, and Browt.
ANA and The Pokemon Company Release New Artwork of Gecqua
As seen above, official new artwork of Gecqua has been released alongside a look at the Pokemon Water starter plane for ANA (an airline based in Japan). The image shows off keen details that were a little more difficult to see in the first Pokemon Winds and Waves trailer. For example, Gecqua adopts a more quadrupedal stance here, her eyes are more detailed, and it seems she could shoot water from her tail. It’s not much, but given that there’s been little to no official word from The Pokemon Company, it’s still more than some fans may have expected.
For those unfamiliar, ANA and The Pokemon Company recently announced a special collaboration in celebration of Pokemon’s 30th anniversary, with the company rolling out three new jets in honor of the three Starter types. These include a Boeing 787-8 for domestic routes and Fire Starters, a Boeing 787-9 for international routes and Grass Starters, and a Boeing 787-800 for the Water Starters. Inside each aircraft, passengers are treated to immersive cabin designs including Pokemon-themed headrest covers, commemorative boarding stickers, limited-edition cups, and more.
As to when fans will see more of Pokemon Winds and Waves, reliable insiders suggested it could be a long wait. It seems Pokemon Winds and Waves are set to release later in 2027, with said insiders suggesting that official Pokemon Winds and Waves news won’t arrive until 2027, presumably in February at the next Pokemon Day. That’s a long, unfortunate wait, but perhaps Game Freak and The Pokemon Company will throw fans a bone ahead of then. That said, it’s not like fans of the franchise even need anything.
Who’s That Character?

Identify the silhouettes before time runs out.
Between excellent fan art depicting potential new Pokemon for the Southeast Asia-inspired region, fan art of new starter evolutions, and of course, possible new Pokemon design and evolution rumors for Winds and Waves, there’s plenty to keep fans’ imagination. Hopefully, the games will live up to those expectations when they do launch.
