Pokemon Winds and Waves were just announced today during the Pokemon Day direct, and the three starters that were revealed align with a previous leak that covers much more of Gen 10. Pokemon Winds and Waves were leaked quite early due to the so-called TeraLeak, including their working titles, but the documents didn’t include a lot about the games, and several details may have changed or have been scrapped over time. One of the more recent leaks suggested that Gen 10 would feature a Rotom Scooter for traversal, and it could very well be the oval device the protagonists revealed today have in their backpacks.
There were even recent leaks surrounding Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ starters, describing one with a big brow and little feet, one that looked like a dessert and with its tongue sticking out, and one that looked like slime. These descriptions are very close to the actual appearance of Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua, so there is a chance that the trailer got out earlier to some people. Either way, the most recent leak included the real-world species of the Gen 10 starters, matching them, alongside various other details about Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ pocket monsters and region.
Pokemon Winds and Waves Will Introduce 2 New “Special” Pikachu
The reveal of Pokemon Winds and Waves includes a look at two unique (and appropriately dressed) versions of series mascot Pikachu.
Pokemon Winds and Waves’ Starters Could Confirm New Battle Gimmick, Cross-Gen Evolutions
These rumors are to be taken with a pinch of salt, as they do not come from a reputable source like Riddler Khu. The original leak was shared on Twitter/X by @Light_88_, and it contains info from today’s Pokemon Presents as well as Gen 10 details. Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua were described in the leak as “a dog, bird, lizard,” which is indeed the case. Furthermore, the leak stated that Pokemon Champions wouldn’t be shadow-dropped, and in fact, it was revealed to have an April 2026 release. These details give credence to the leak, which also states the following:
- Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ battle gimmick may be tied to weather moves, but the game also features a new mechanic called Rebirth. If a Pokemon faints in battle while holding a specific item, it revives with an omni-boost and cannot be switched out. Some Pokemon have “Reborn forms” that only activate in this state.
- The player character has two rivals: one named Jasper and another based on the gender option not chosen at the start.
- Professor Oak returns; he has a new look, and he has a special interaction if you transfer Pokemon from FireRed and LeafGreen.
- You can interact and play with your Pokemon by setting a hiking point.
- Orthworm gets a cross-gen evolution in Pokemon Winds and Waves, becoming a subway train called Rustaroam.
- Liepard, Mienshao, and Claydol get a cross-gen evolution.
- Goldeen gets a cross-gen evolution that makes it Water/Dragon and looks like a koi fish.

What Pokemon Winds and Waves’ New Leaks Mean
These alleged leaks have not been verified by reputable sources in the meantime, and it’s unclear where the information comes from. However, if true, this could be a massive shakeup for Pokemon competitive teams and battles, as a mechanic that allows Pokemon to be revived when they faint, get an omni-boost, and possibly even an exclusive form could dramatically change the scope of VGC and what kind of critters to use in the first place.
On top of that, Seaking is one of the few Kanto Pokemon with no gimmicks, so giving a cross-gen evolution to Goldeen could finally make this line see more love and usage. Orthworm’s evolution makes thematic sense for the critter, and Liepard, Mienshao, and Claydol could all need some help to become relevant. However, the catch is that Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ 2027 release window means that most of this leak will be unverifiable for months, at the very least.
