Pokopia’s Pokémon Interactions Are One Of The Best Parts

Pokopia’s Pokémon Interactions Are One Of The Best Parts

Part of Pokémon Pokopia’s charm is watching the ways in which the monsters who inhabit your island interact with each other when you’re not involved. Most of the Pokémon you recruit to your home will walk around the area and play with toys, use props, and lay on furniture you leave out for them. But sometimes they’ll interact with each other, and these unscripted moments are some of the most delightful things you can stumble upon while taking care of your island.

We don’t get a lot of chances to see Pokémon of different types and ecosystems interacting in the games. The anime shows a lot more crossover, but in the RPGs, Pokémon spend so much time separate from one another in their Poké Balls, and mostly just idly hanging out when they’re not. Pokopia goes out of its way to capture each monster’s personality, and putting them all in a shared space means you get some really cute bonding moments, like how this player found Goomy, a little dragon, training on a punching bag that the fighting-type Pokémon typically use. Rather than getting territorial or arguing, fighting Pokémon like Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, and Heracross all cheered the slimy little guy on.

when I say no piece of media has EVER gotten a reaction like this out of me. Goomy hittin the bag while all his fighting type friends cheer him on 😭😭 pic.twitter.com/XC2Wz6z6Cs

Some of the interactions are less defined, as you’ll sometimes just see Pokémon chatting and enjoying each other’s company.

The little interactions between Pokémon are the cutest thing ever & watching them makes me so happy! 😭

I love how much personality & expressiveness they have, especially when their eyes light up out of pure joy. 🥹#PokemonPokopia pic.twitter.com/K98iFETq1M

But sometimes, they’ll have full-blown conversations you can listen in on as they teach each other new things about their respective species, living habits, and the world around them.

Pokopia takes place in a version of the Pokémon world where humanity has disappeared, so it’s one of the few entries where we see these critters interacting as they might if they weren’t under constant threat of being captured and used for competitive sport. Yeah, they like to battle, but they also just seem to love making friends and working together as a community, and Pokopia has so many lovely reminders of that.
