Every God Confirmed to Be in God of War Laufey

Every God Confirmed to Be in God of War Laufey

God of War Laufey is the first spinoff of the legendary Norse God of War games, set within God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok. The story, which follows Kratos’ deceased wife and mother to Atreus, Faye, takes place in the Everywhen, an afterlife for all pantheons, not just Norse.

With the afterlife brimming with dead gods across various pantheons yet to be shown, you might be wondering which gods appear in God of War Laufey, who they are, and if any of them are returning characters from old games and mythologies. Look below to see which gods appear (so far).

God of War Laufey, Explained: Who Is Faye?

God of War Laufey is set to follow Kratos’ second wife, Faye, and her journey in the Everywhen. Here’s what you need to know about her character.

Kratos – The Greek God of War

The first and most expected god who makes an appearance in God of War Laufey is, of course, Kratos, the main protagonist of the God of War series. After all, it can’t be a God of War game without the titular God of War. While we’re not sure about the role Kratos plays, he will clearly have a big one, whether that’s as Laufey’s motives or directly to her face.

From the trailer provided, Laufey is helped to her feet by Kratos, and there are ample opportunities for them to see each other again. Whether it’s in Kratos’ dreams, memories of the past, or every time he’s died and had to be revived in battle (like his clash with Thor). Only time will tell how vital Kratos is to this story.

Sekhmet – The Egyptian God of War

Sekhmet is the first Egyptian god to feature in a God of War game, and it just so happens to be another God of War that Laufey is meeting (with the first being Kratos). Sekhmet is the lion-headed daughter of Ra, the sun god, but how she ended up dead in the Everywhen is unknown.

What else is unknown? Her relationship to Begtse, and her role in the Everywhen itself. However, what we do know is that Faye is on a quest to kill these gods and ensure that they do not get in her way returning to Midgard, so there’s far more to Sekhmet to learn about closer to the game’s release.

Begtse – The Tibetan/Mongolian God of War

Joining Sekhmet is Begtse, a Lord of War in Buddhism, and a God of War in Mongolia. With red skin and flaming hair, Begtse seems truly fierce, which begs the question of who managed to kill him to bring him into the Everywhen, or was his death part of the plan to control the afterlife?

Begtse is here for the same reason as the other misguided and dead gods, which is to seize power and control everything in the Everywhen. His relationship to Sekhmet seems to enhance their power with combined strength, and his fear of Faye’s new sword is something to ponder until the game’s release.

Loki – The God of Mischief

Atreus (or as Faye named him, Loki) makes a brief appearance in the trailer, watching over his mother’s funeral pyre as seen in the beginning of God of War (2018). Everything Laufey seems to do in the Everywhen seems to be to help Kratos and Atreus on their path, which is why he might also play a role physically in the story.

While it’s likely that Kratos and Laufey’s relationship will be the emotional anchor of the story, it’s impossible to forget that Laufey is a mother, and Atreus is a son. Their relationship deserves attention just as much as Faye and Kratos’, so it’s likely he will have something to do other than a voiceless cameo at the start.

Every God Of War Game, Ranked

Santa Monica Studio’s God of War has produced many great games. Naturally, some of Kratos’ bloody PlayStation adventures are better than others.

The next entries could contain spoilers, but they’re purely based on speculation of who could appear in God of War Laufey, and are in no way official confirmations of the game’s plot.

Rumored/Expected Gods to Appear in God of War Laufey

Tyr – The Norse God of War

There’s been a rumor floating around the web for a while that Tyr will appear in God of War Laufey, which could make sense, considering the character’s ties to Jotunheim, secret imprisonment by Odin, and eventual freedom after Odin falls at the end of God of War Ragnarok.

Tyr is now free to roam the different realms once more, and he can be found in various locations in God of War Ragnarok, meditating and performing different poses from various cultures, proving that he has been across the world. Perhaps in Tyr’s travels, he’s learned how to reach the Everywhen, even if he’s not actually dead?

Thor – The Norse God of Thunder

Thor is killed at the end of God of War Ragnarok by his father, Odin, after refusing to kill Kratos. Thor elects to break the cycle of abuse and murder with his sacrifice, and his body disintegrates, which is something we’ve never seen from a Norse God before.

Perhaps this was Thor’s body transported to the Everywhen, where he will eventually meet Faye. After all, the two have a bloodied history of brutal conflict, so to see a reformed Thor might give both characters closure or add to an intense dynamic. Thor wouldn’t be in Valhalla in death, so surely he’s in the Everywhen, and who said time had to be linear in the Everywhen?

Zeus – The God of the Sky, Lightning, and Thunder

Since the Everywhen connects the different pantheons in one combined afterlife, it would be an absolute treat to see some of Kratos’ victims of the Greek Pantheon once more. Zeus is the more obvious candidate, as it means Faye can interact with her father-in-law and perhaps learn the truth of what Kratos did centuries ago in his own realm.

To see the King of the Gods of the Greek Pantheon reduced to just another runt feigning for power in the Everywhen would do wonders for his character, and it could also help to show his true colors, as he’s no longer under the influence of Pandora’s Box.

The release date of God of War Laufey is currently unknown, but more gods and surprises will surely be on the horizon the closer we get to launch, and we’ll have them all right here.
