A trailer for what was supposed to become the next game in the Mass Effect franchise has leaked online. The video appeared just a day after it was announced that EA was shutting down BioWare, the developer of the Mass Effect series.
Mass Effect Universe Trailer Leaks
A trailer for a new Mass Effect game has leaked online, which, if legitimate, indicates the next game was titled Mass Effect Universe. The two-minute teaser showcases an unknown character walking into a bar, notably wearing the same coat that could be seen in earlier Mass Effect 5 teasers from 2023. As he steps up, he’s immediately approached by an Asari, and the two briefly discuss that he’s ex-military, as what appears to be a flashback to his combat days plays, where he and his squad are facing off against Krogans. The trailer then segues to clips of a Mass Effect relay in use, combat, and a romance scene, while he narrates that he’s shifted to putting out fires before they start. This triggers the Asari to threaten him, saying “I start the fires,” only to be interrupted by Liara T’Soni appearing behind her, responding that’s exactly why they’re there. A fight with Liara and the new character facing off against the unnamed Asari’s guards then briefly breaks out before the title screen appears. While EA and BioWare officials haven’t confirmed or denied whether the clip is official, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has said that his sources indicate it’s legitimate.
