PS Plus July 2026: Every Free Game Ranked by Value

PS Plus Extra’s July 2026 games roll out over the next week, adding big names and lesser-known gems to Sony’s subscription service. However, which of these games offers the most value? Is it Rise of the Ronin or Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora? Maybe an indie darling like Citizen Sleeper 2? A PS2 classic like Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy? Or maybe one of the monthly freebies like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III?

While everyone judges by slightly different criteria, we can use reliable data to assess the overall worth of a PS Plus game. Mainly, we can look at their financial value, their quantity of content, and their quality of content. Well, let’s get to it and find the best PS Plus game of July 2026, ranked by their value.

*I know these games aren’t truly free since they require a subscription.

An explanation of the criteria:

  • Wallet Relief – Determined by a game’s lowest price in 2026.
  • Time Investment – Determined by a game’s How Long To Beat average times, along with its genre.
  • Critical Quality – Partially determined by a game’s score on the PlayStation Store, although context matters here too.

Best PS Plus Extra Games You Should Be Playing Right Now

From big exclusives to overlooked gems, here are the top PlayStation Plus games you should download next on your PS5. Play them before you can’t.

1

Rise of the Ronin (PS5)

Value Score: 26/30

Gliding into town in Rise Of The Ronin (2024)

  • Lowest Price in 2026: $29.39
  • How Long to Beat: 25–50 Hours
  • PS Store Average Rating: 4.17/5
  • Comes to PS Plus on July 21

Team Ninja’s open-world RPG takes the top spot for July by quite a wide margin, despite not being presented as the headline act. Along with being very long and relatively replayable due to its robust combat system, Rise of the Ronin rarely receives deep discounts on the PS5, and you are almost guaranteed to spend $30 at a minimum. When you pair that financial savings with a massive 50-hour historical sandbox packed with deep, rewarding combat mechanics, it represents the absolute highest return on investment for a standard subscription tier this July.

Rise of the Ronin is one of Team Ninja’s more divisive games, but it still has most of the developer’s standard hallmarks. I definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys Nioh or Wo Long.

2

Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector (PS5)

Value Score: 22/30

citizen sleeper 2 escape hexport walkthrough guide.

  • Lowest Price in 2026: $12.49 (Right Now)
  • How Long to Beat: 9–15 Hours
  • PS Store Average Rating: 4.77/5
  • Comes to PS Plus on July 28

In terms of pure quality, Citizen Sleeper 2 is July 2026’s best PS Plus game, although its tabletop inspiration, dice mechanics, and dialogue-driven content make it fairly niche compared to a few other titles. While its runtime is modest compared to the massive open-world heavyweights on the list, its exceptional writing, deep role-playing choices, and day-one launch status on the service make it a high-quality addition that fully validates your monthly subscription fee. Also, a game should be as long as it needs to be, and Citizen Sleeper 2 by no means feels short.

If you haven’t played Citizen Sleeper, I recommend starting with that, especially since it is also on PS Plus Extra. The sequel is better, but not by much.

3

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (PS5)

Value Score: 22/30

  • Lowest Price in 2026: $17.99 (Right Now)
  • How Long to Beat: 25–45 Hours
  • PS Store Average Rating: 4/5
  • Comes to PS Plus on July 21

There’s only so much value an Ubisoft open-world game can hold, just because they go on sale so quickly and frequently. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is framed as PS Plus Extra’s headline act for the month, and the sci-fi shooter offers beautiful visuals, tight Far Cry-esque gameplay, and an awesome world to explore. If you enjoy the Ubisoft formula, you will get a lot of mileage from Avatar; however, if you are completely exhausted by these types of games, your interest might fade relatively quickly due to its repetitive mission system.

I’m a sucker for the occasional Ubisoft romp, and I had a blast with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, enjoying it more than something like Far Cry 6.

4

Firefighting Simulator: Ignite

Value Score: 21/30

  • Firefighting Simulator Ignite key art neighborhood fire
Firefighting Simulator: Ignite key art featuring a suburban house fire getting extinguished.
  • Firefighting Simulator Ignite promo gameplay screenshot (2)
  • Firefighting Simulator Ignite Dalmatian Simi pre-order bonus

  • Lowest Price in 2026: $23.99
  • How Long to Beat: 20–30 Hours
  • PS Store Average Rating: 4.35/5
  • Comes to PS Plus on July 21

July 2026’s hidden gem is a simulator that covers one of the most dangerous jobs on Earth, and does so in a way that is both respectful and fun (if not necessarily deep and varied). Although not for everyone, Firefighting Simulator: Ignite has been out for less than a year, offers a robust campaign with co-op, and tends to be liked by its target audience. From what I understand, Ignite doesn’t really try to simulate the daily routine of a firefighter; rather, it focuses on translating their more intense calls.

Honestly, Firefighting Simulator: Ignite isn’t my type of game, but it adds more diversity to PS Plus Extra’s library.

5

Dying Light (PS4)

Value Score: 20/30

The main character of Dying Light hanging from a ledge

  • Lowest Price in 2026: $7.49 (Right Now)
  • How Long to Beat: 18–35 Hours
  • PS Store Average Rating: 4.64/5
  • Comes to PS Plus on July 28

Dying Light is a fantastic zombie-slashing parkour playground, but it’s also an 11-year-old game that’s been dirt cheap for a long time. The Definitive Edition is available right now for a third of the price of a PS Plus Extra one-month subscription, and the game is long enough that it could take a couple of weeks to complete. Honestly, you would almost be wasting money if you dedicated a month to Dying Light; at the same time, its PS Plus inclusion might encourage some people to finally give it a go.

Dying Light is July’s best new open-world game, in my opinion, but it also holds the least value. I cannot imagine too many people remain who haven’t tried it.

Dying Light: Best Shotguns, Ranked

While some players prefer to take the melee route in Dying Light, the availability of deadly shotguns like these is a hard temptation to resist.

6

CrossCode (PS5/PS4)

Value Score: 19/30

Alabaster Dawn coming from CrossCode studio

  • Lowest Price in 2026: $7.99
  • How Long to Beat: 35–55 Hours
  • PS Store Average Rating: 3.98/5
  • PS Plus Essential

CrossCode has been on sale plenty of times over the last few years, but a low retail price tag doesn’t mean low value. Even if you aren’t earning notable financial savings from adding it to your library, what you do get is a long action RPG with a cool sci-fi story, complex dungeons, and fast-paced combat. The sheer quantity of content is impressive, even if CrossCode threatens to overstay its welcome at some points.

Just a delightful indie RPG.

7

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (PS5/PS4)

Value Score: 18/30

  • Lowest Price in 2026: $27.99
  • How Long to Beat: 5 Hours–Eternity
  • PS Store Average Rating: 3.53/5
  • PS Plus Essential

By far the hardest to value and rank, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is, technically, one of the biggest July 2026 PS Plus games. Activision generally avoids reducing the price of the franchise’s titles, with even entries released in the 2010s still costing an arm and a leg. Heck, Black Ops 1 and 2 were recently ported to the PS5 for $39.99 each. At this point, Modern Warfare III will only appeal to people interested in the campaign, which is one of the worst in the series. Still, technically, the multiplayer is still quite active and fairly decent, so that holds some value.

I enjoyed a good Call of Duty campaign, but MWIII drops the ball in that area. Still, “free with a subscription” is about as much as the single-player content is worth.

8

Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy (PS5/PS4)

Value Score: 17/30

  • Lowest Price in 2026: $9.99 (Predicted Debut Price)
  • How Long to Beat: 10–15 Hours
  • Metacritic Rating: 84/100 (aka 4.2/5)
  • Comes to PS Plus on July 21
  • PS Plus Premium Only

One of two PS Plus Premium games coming to PS Plus in July, Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy is the most exciting arrival, largely due to its relative obscurity as a forgotten PS2 gem. A cult classic known for its telekinetic physics mechanics, Psi-Ops was ahead of its time in some ways, and it is 100% deserving of its PS Plus preservation. Ultimately, though, this is still a port of an ancient game that won’t hold any real value to most subscribers who don’t have nostalgia for this era.

Honestly, I cannot wait to replay Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy. Please hold up.

9

For The King II (PS5/PS4)

Value Score: 17/30

for the king 2 combat

  • Lowest Price in 2026: $8.49
  • How Long to Beat: 50+ Hours
  • PS Store Average Rating: 3.52/5
  • PS Plus Essential

Another PS Plus Essential game that is difficult to rate, For The King II is a very niche role-playing experience that loses much of its value when played solo. However, if you are part of a group craving a D&D-style romp with strategic gameplay, roguelite elements, and a create-your-own-story mentality, then For The King II could very well dominate your life for a couple of months. The game has improved quite a bit since its rocky launch, so it is in a decent place nowadays.

With the right group, For The King II‘s value is closer to a 22.

By picking the right classes in For The King 2, players will have a much easier time emerging victorious in battle.

10

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind (PS5/PS4)

Value Score: 16/30

Power Rangers Rita's Rewind Major New Features Green Ranger

  • Lowest Price in 2026: $17.49
  • How Long to Beat: 2–5 Hours
  • PS Store Average Rating: 3.97/5
  • Comes to PS Plus on July 28

Your mileage with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind depends entirely on your tolerance for beat ’em ups that periodically promote frustration over enjoyment. Don’t get me wrong, Rita’s Rewind is a good entry in the genre and an awesome love letter to the ’90s classic show, and anybody who enjoys both is in for a treat. However, everyone else might struggle to stick with this one, as it isn’t as accessible and polished as, say, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. Great with friends, though.

If you have a few friends who also want to play, then it is mighty morphin’ time! Also, the game received several post-release updates that improved the base content, so it is arguably better than its average rating suggests.
