PS Plus Monthly Games for October 2026 Wish List

With September coming to an end, and many PlayStation Plus subscribers likely having seen all there is to see from games like Sniper Elite: Resistance and Wobbly Life, attention will naturally be turning to October 2026 and its game lineup. And while there’s no telling what surprises Sony could have in store for the PS Plus user base, there are a handful of titles that are worth hoping for.

While it’s impossible to consistently predict any month’s games, as some titles feel chosen at random based on behind-the-scenes publisher partnerships, there are a few reliable patterns that can make a wish list feel grounded in reality. Usually, when crafting monthly PlayStation Plus lineups, Sony makes sure that the Essential titles don’t overlap in their genres. Additionally, PS Plus drops can be used to promote new releases in the same franchise or capitalize on the success of external media. The following PS Plus wish list candidates would follow these patterns, as Sony could hype up an upcoming 2026 release, build off of a hit film’s hype, and work alongside a publisher for a mutually beneficial deal.

PS Plus Free Game for October 2026: Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition

While Grand Theft Auto 6 is the most anticipated video game ever made as is, it wouldn’t hurt for PlayStation to double down on the association between this series and the PS5. In addition to all the “plays best on PlayStation” advertising, rolling out the red carpet for GTA 6 via a themed PS Plus addition seems like a real possibility. And given that GTA 4 is unplayable on PS5, and GTA 5 has been a part of the PS Plus service on multiple occasions, a trilogy of PS2 remasters is the next best thing.

While this Grand Theft Auto game collection was critically panned when it first released, as players took issue with lighting changes, visual bugs, and a lack of modern controls, a series of patches ensured that the Definitive Edition remasters eventually lived up to their name. If Rockstar wants to get players as excited as possible for GTA 6, letting them binge these remastered classics for free if they have PS Plus would be a brilliant way to help make that happen.

PS Plus Free Game for October 2026: Resident Evil 4 Remake

After an entire franchise of critical flops that made controversial decisions with existing characters, Resident Evil has finally managed to get glowing reviews and box office success with the same film. Zach Cregger’s latest horror gem captures the feel of traversing one of Capcom’s terrifying worlds, even if it takes place in its own timeline and introduces its own characters. And to celebrate that success, getting one of the modern Resident Evil games on PlayStation Plus would be ideal.

Not only is October the month of Halloween, which practically demands a horror headliner for PS Plus, but Resident Evil titles have also appeared on PS Plus multiple times. The original 3 games are part of the PS Plus Premium Classics Catalog, and RE Village is part of Extra’s catalog. With RE Requiem only just releasing in 2026, getting one of the remakes on the service would make more sense, like 2023’s exceptional revisit of Resident Evil 4.

• Smoother controls, a parrying feature, and stealth opportunities improve moment-to-moment gameplay.
• Iconic characters like Luis and Ashley get some much-needed improvements to their dialogue and story roles.
• Improved visuals make every setting and character model feel modern, upping the potential for scares.

Metaphor: ReFantazio would be a mutually beneficial addition to PlayStation Plus’ Essential games. Not only would a chunky JRPG differ from the fairly linear horror game and collection of remasters proposed above, but it’s also simply an excellent title that could be a headliner for any month. With Atlus cozying up to the competition and offering multiple Persona games via Xbox Game Pass, Sony offering one of the studio’s many gems for free could help convince JRPG lovers that there will still be great deals on both platforms regarding their genre of choice.

And for Atlus, more discussion around Metaphor would be a boon, as it’s releasing to a whole new audience via its Nintendo Switch 2 port in November. Getting an influx of PlayStation players talking about how great Metaphor is this October could remind more Switch fans to grab the game in November, something Atlus undoubtedly desires.

With PS Plus Extra games being significantly less predictable than Essential is, and tending to offer everything from heavy hitters to random kids’ games that came and went, players can wish for practically anything they want. One unlikely (yet extremely clever) addition would be Gears of War: Reloaded, as Sony could essentially soften the blow of Gears of War: E-Day being Xbox console exclusive by reminding subscribers that a part of the franchise is playable on PS5 consoles.

Still, getting Microsoft to agree to such a steep discount for one of its in-house games seems very unlikely, especially with the company trying to re-establish Gears as a proper first-party property. Another improbable-yet-epic addition would be Baldur’s Gate 3. Not only have Larian’s games completely dodged subscription services, but as one of the most critically acclaimed games ever, BG3 also continues to sell very well. Still, this is a wish list at the end of the day, and BG3 coming to a higher tier is more realistic than it going straight to Essential.

More believable options for PS Plus Extra headliners this October are Black Myth: Wukong and Gran Turismo 7. The former is the first entry in what is now a proper series, so getting as many fans as possible invested could be a smart way to guarantee the sequel, Zhong Kui, is a success. As for the latter, Gran Turismo 7’s huge update in August added new cars, tracks, and completely revamped the physics system. With another big update set to come in two parts, the first in October and the second in December, getting as many new and lapsed players into Gran Turismo 7 as possible would make business sense for Sony.

As for Bayonetta and Vanquish, the 10th Anniversary combo pack has been available for over 6 years now, so it should be a simple addition that bolsters the lineup with two all-time great action games. Finally, there’s Silent Hill 1, which would give PS Plus Premium a heavy hitter to advertise.
