An official press release from Sega mentions something regarding the PS5 version of Persona 6 that narrows down its release window. In fact, it also supports a recent leak suggesting that Persona 6 would release in September 2027.
As fans know, Persona 6 was officially announced at the Xbox Games Showcase earlier this year with an eerie trailer. Unfortunately, the trailer itself does not make a lot of sense (and it probably isn’t supposed to). Other than confirming the dominant color of green, the Persona 6 trailer intentionally leaves players with more questions than answers, and seeking the truth has led some fans to an overlooked detail in a press release from earlier this year.
Persona 6 May Hit PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S (Before January 2028)
The official Sega press release lists Persona 6‘s core platforms. As is no surprise, Persona 6 is confirmed for Xbox Game Pass (via Xbox Series X/S consoles), PC, and PS5, with no mention of the Switch 2. However, the press release does specifically mention that “only physical copies of the PS5 version are available.” It’s ambiguous enough that it could have two meanings, although one is more likely. The first is that the PlayStation Store will not sell a digital version of Persona 6, which makes no sense, and the second is that any physical copies produced for the game will only be for PS5. In other words, it won’t have a physical release on Xbox Series X/S consoles.

This is an important detail because, as fans know, PlayStation is ending disc production in January 2028. The company previously announced this decision and received tons of backlash online, but it seems set on moving forward with it. While PlayStation will support disc games for some time after that (for games released on disc ahead of then), no PlayStation game released in or after January 2028 will receive a physical copy, bringing the all-digital future to the fore. And while that’s generally bad for physical media enthusiasts, it does indicate that Persona 6 will release before January 2028, so Sega can get support from PlayStation for discs.

2027 could be a big year for the franchise then, with the press release also promoting Persona 4 Revival‘s February 18 release date. Sega and Atlus are likely to keep things close to their chests until P4R is out, giving the remake its time in the sun, before marketing on P6 ramps up. Mid-to-late 2027 makes sense then with the “before January 2028” parameter in mind, and a generally reliable leaker previously said September 2027. It’s all lining up.

Still, fans shoulld still take this information with a grain of salt. The ambiguous phrasing could mean some unknown third thing or it could be some kind of translation issue, but there’s no denying that its description of Persona 6′s story and gameplay is exciting, too: “Persona 6 tells an all-new tale set in a never-before-seen locale, delivering the unique worldbuilding and innovative gameplay fans have come to adore. New encounters beckon!”
