Resident Evil 4 Remake Gets Co-Op Multiplayer

Fans of Resident Evil 4 remake who have wished they could play it with friends are in luck, as a new mod has added that ability to the game. The mod allows players to take control of a Resident Evil 4 remake character and play through the campaign alongside Leon.

The Resident Evil series has had more than a few instances of multiplayer options over the years, albeit with varying levels of engagement. Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6, for example, are best played with a co-op partner, while Resident Evil Outbreak allowed for up to four players to participate. Not every Resident Evil multiplayer option is as in-depth, though, with Resident Evil Relevations 2 notably not giving the second player much to do, with no significant offensive capabilities. This mod, however, sticks closer to the experience offered by Resident Evil 5.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Gets Multiplayer Mod

A new mod called Resident Evil 4 Multiplayer has been released by modder claybtv, and is available for download now. The mod allows two copies of Resident Evil 4 remake on PC to sync up, placing a second player into the campaign. For example, one player can be Leon while another can play as Wesker or Ashley, and even playing with two Leons is possible. Enemies, events, switches, and so-on are synchronized, so playing through the entirety of the campaign with two players should be possible.

However, gamers should be aware that the mod is currently in beta, so there are some technical hiccups, particularly with lag and stuttering enemy movement. Players will also need to coordinate with one another to set up the mod, as both players need to be in the same place in the game before syncing up. Some areas are particularly glitchy, like the battle against Del Lago. Additionally, accessing the inventory pauses the game for the second player, so that’s also something to take into consideration. However, the simple fact that Resident Evil 4 remake can now be played with a co-op partner is an impressive achievement, and one that a lot of gamers will likely enjoy.

Unfortunately for console gamers, this mod isn’t available on any system other than PCs. On the official multiplayer front, there have been rumors of a Resident Evil 5 remake for a long time, but so far, nothing official has surfaced from Capcom. The most recently revealed Resident Evil game will be the upcoming Resident Evil: Veronica, a remake of the classic Code: Veronica game that players have been asking for over the years. It’s also been claimed that a Resident Evil Zero remake is in development, but that hasn’t been confirmed. Although both games feature more than one protagonist, at this time, there’s no indication that either will feature a co-op mode.

Adding a multiplayer mode to a game that didn’t originally have it can be tricky, and can introduce a lot of bugs. However, it’s clear that the option is popular with gamers. In 2026 alone, new multiplayer mods for Kingdom Hearts 3, The Witcher 3, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 have either been revealed to be in development or are out now. It’s a good excuse to revisit some favorites, this time with a friend in tow.
