Resurrected Announces Reign of the Warlock DLC, Class Also Coming to Diablo 4

For the first time in nearly 25 years, Diablo 2 is getting new content in the form of the Reign of the Warlock DLC. Announced during Blizzard’s Diablo Spotlight event, Reign of the Warlock is introducing the new class to Diablo 2: Resurrected, as well as Diablo Immortal, and Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred. This will be the first time the Warlock class has appeared in the Diablo franchise, and it’s making its presence known across three games.

The announcement of the Warlock for three Diablo games comes on the heels of Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred‘s reveal during The Game Awards 2025. This trailer showcased the new Paladin class available for Diablo 4 players to use during Season 11, provided they pre-purchase the Lord of Hatred expansion. Additionally, a second class for the expansion was promised at this time as well, but the shadow-drop of the class for Diablo 2: Resurrected and Diablo Immortal as well is an unexpected, but welcome way to celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

Diablo 4’s Paladin has come a long way from its Diablo 2 incarnation, and the development team had to strike a balance between the old and the new.

New Warlock Class is Coming to Diablo 2: Resurrected, Diablo Immortal, and Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred

The Diablo 30th Anniversary Spotlight showcase was full of exciting reveals, but the star of the show was the Reign of the Warlock DLC for Diablo 2: Resurrected. Despite this remastered version of Blizzard’s 2000 classic ARPG releasing in 2021, Diablo 2 hasn’t received any major new expansion since Lord of Destruction in 2001. Reign of the Warlock is also available today for players on Battle.net, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

In contrast to a class like the Paladin, which draws on the power of the High Heavens, the Warlock is much more sinister, using knowledge of ancient Vizjerei texts to summon demons to do their bidding. With this demonic power, the Warlock of Diablo 2: Resurrected is able to summon and wield minions, with abilities like:

  • Summon Goatman, Tainted, and Defiler
  • Bind an enemy demon and gain access to their unique skill
  • Devour a demon to gain buffs based on the demon consumed

Beyond the new Warlock class, the Reign of the Warlock DLC is also adding Enhanced Terror Zones to Diablo 2: Resurrected. Here, players can complete more difficult versions of Diablo 2: Resurrected‘s Acts and battle new enemies like Heralds of Terror and the Colossal Ancients, a new boss accessible by completing all Terrorized Acts on Hell difficulty and combining the statues rewarded for doing so in the Horadric Cube. The expansion also adds some useful quality-of-life features like a built-in Loot Filter, advanced stash tabs that allow items to be stacked, and a Chronicle that allows players to track every item they’ve obtained.

Diablo 2: Resurrected isn’t the only game celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary with the Warlock class. Diablo Immortal will see the Warlock join the class roster in Summer 2026, bringing with her the powerful Soulgorger as the focus of her kit. Additionally, Diablo Immortal will receive a new Warlock origin quest and the return of the Warlock-centric location of Lut Gholein from Diablo 2.

Fans of Diablo 4 will also get to experience the Warlock when the class launches with the Lord of Hatred expansion in April. Along with this new class, Lord of Hatred will introduce the region of Skovos for the first time in Diablo series history, along with new features like the War Plans endgame content that allows players to get further rewarded for participating in various endgame activities, and an overhauled skill tree to make Diablo 4 builds even more customizable. Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred seems packed with new features, with the Horadric Cube, Talismans, a Loot Filter, and Fishing rounding out the expansion’s notable new content.
