Saros Confirms PS5 Features and PS5 Pro Enhancements

Saros, which is just a couple of weeks away from release, is set to be one of the biggest PlayStation 5 exclusives of the year, alongside the likes of Marvel’s Wolverine. Now, ahead of its launch on April 30, developer Housemarque has pulled back the curtain on the many exclusive features and enhancements planned for the PlayStation 5 Pro version of Saros.

Following the huge success of Returnal, which was, at the time, one of the biggest and most critically acclaimed PlayStation 5 exclusives, Housemarque is looking to build on the gameplay elements introduced in the 2021 release with its next IP, Saros. First revealed during a State of Play in early 2025, the next title from Housemarque was initially set to launch in March 2026, but a delay pushed Saros‘ release date back by an additional month. Saros is now set to launch exclusively for PlayStation 5 on April 30.

Saros Reveals PS5 Pro Enhancements

Saros officially went gold earlier this month, which means the next bullet hell third-person shooter from Housemarque is all set to launch in just a couple of weeks’ time. For those who have the Pro version of the PlayStation 5, a new blog post from the game’s creative director, Gregory Louden, has revealed all of the exclusive features and enhancements for the console. One of the key differences that Pro users will be able to take advantage of is the updated PSSR support. Following the recent release of PSSR 2 last month, Housemarque says Saros will have an even sharper image and that fans will “barely tell it apart from native 4K.”

Seppo Halonen, the technical director at Housemarque, also touched upon how the studio has increased base render resolution for Saros on the PS5 Pro, which is the resolution before upscaling. Halonen says this means players will have an even clearer resolution image at 60 FPS. “While we use dynamic resolution to ensure stable frame rate even in the middle of hectic combat, PS5 Pro always delivers a sharper image in a scene-to-scene comparison,” the developer said. He goes on to explain that the PS5 Pro allows Housemarque to push the graphics of Saros even further, with many small adjustments in reflections and overall quality, ensuring that the increase is not only more pixels, but also so that the content rendered scales up to match.

One way in which Saros builds upon the quality of Returnal is in the game’s evolved 3D audio precision, which Housemarque says will allow for an even more immersive experience on the PlayStation 5 thanks to its Tempest 3D AudioTech. “You can hear the lost Carcosa, hostiles and even our music all around you when playing with 3D Audio enabled headphones or a 3D audio sound setup,” the game’s creative director says. He also notes how the studio makes use of the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers have also been taken to another level. When using the adaptive trigger on L2, pulling it halfway down will activate the weapon’s alt fire, which allows for alternative attacks, such as grenade launchers, slower-firing heavy rounds, and more. Pulling L2 all the way down will activate the Eclipse driven Power Weapon, which allows players to hit back hard using collected projectiles from your Soltari Shield.

Saros will also be making use of the PlayStation 5’s ultra-high-speed SSD for “near instant fast loading.” The team says it has also put more detail, thought, and nuance into the haptic feedback of the console’s DualSense controller. The game’s creative director said there are some “very special haptics” for players to experience during Saros, but refused to spoil the surprise.
