Saros gets a brand-new update for May 2026, with Housemarque addressing various issues with the game while also continuing to apply quality of life improvements. Building off of Hoursemarque’s previous game Returnal, Saros brings back the third person bullet hell and roguelite elements, while expanding the gameplay and narrative elements in a new way. So far, it appears the game is another big hit for the Finnish studio.
While sales numbers are not yet available at the time of publication, Housemarque is making sure to take advantage of as much new technology as it can, despite Saros also having a massive file size as a result. It also seems that the studio learned a lot of lessons from Returnal as Saros offers a more customizable experience, allowing players to ramp up the difficulty or soften the rough edges a bit for something a little more comfortable. Either way, it appears that Saros is destined to continue evolving over time through new updates, such as the latest one which arrived on May 5, 2026.
Saros Confirms PS5 Features and PS5 Pro Enhancements
Ahead of its release later this month, Saros reveals the features and enhancements available to those who will be playing on the PS5 Pro.
The latest patch for Saros is now available to download and, as expected, it continues to improve the overall experience. While Saros already has a long list of modifiers and accessibility options, this patch has added even more. Specifically, there are new color-specific options including additional categories, HUD Power Indicator options, matching for Armor Integrity Gauge Corruption, as well as the ability to preview the changes before setting them live. Certain indicators have also been adjusted, specifically for ammo, the weapon charge bar, and boss invulnerability. Finally, the Second Chance visibility has been fixed when using the Carcosan Modifiers.
Outside of that, Housemarque has also made further improvements to the visuals of Saros by adjusting the reflection quality and better optimizing the depth of field. In terms of game balance, the Power Generator weapon trait has been nerfed slightly as the amount of Power gained has been lowered. The Powered Dash artifact now has damage scaling and the visuals have also been adjusted. Bullet bounce accuracy has also been improved in some capacity.

The comments were filled with players airing new issues in the hopes of getting the attention of Housemarque. It’s clear that this update hasn’t solved every issue with the game, as one player continues to wait for a bug that appears to hard lock players in the Cathedral portal room as neither door opens. Others are hoping for more DLC and even a photo mode option to take advantage of the creepy and unique atmosphere that Saros provides, a feature which eventually did arrive post-launch for Returnal.
In addition to this update, Saros is offering a free download to players. Recently discovered hidden codes on the official game page will unlock 6 PSN avatars and can be redeemed through the PlayStation website or app. The avatars unlock character-specific avatars, one for protagonist Arjun Devraj, with the other 5 being made up of the five bosses in the game.
