Sea of Thieves Adds Recurring ‘Last Ship Standing’ PvP Event

Sea of Thieves Adds Recurring ‘Last Ship Standing’ PvP Event

Sea of Thieves is adding a new PvP event named Last Ship Standing, where players can face off against up to five other ship crews in a fight to the death. Last Ship Standing is set to launch on May 14, as part of Sea of Thieves Season 19: Act 3.

Sea of Thieves has come a long way since launch. The game was met with a mixed reception upon its 2018 release, but was quickly embraced by players. Its multiplayer pirate gameplay was unlike anything else on the market, and Rare has continued to enhance the experience over the years through comprehensive Sea of Thieves updates. Against all the odds based on its tough reception at launch, some even consider Sea of Thieves to be amongst Rare’s best games, a big feat considering the developer’s rich history.

This One Change Broke Sea of Thieves’ Economy

Season 18 gold inflation has players questioning whether loot still means anything at all.

Sea of Thieves’ New PvP Event Starts on May 14

In an official Sea of Thieves blog post, developer Rare detailed everything coming to the game in the month of May. The headline feature is Last Ship Standing, which arrives on May 14 as part of Season 19: Act 3. This new game mode sees up to six Sloop crews “battle to survive on the strange tides of the Sea of the Damned.” It can be activated by using the Hourglass of Fate. According to the developer, “a new fighting space has been crafted specifically for these clashes, dotted with environmental hazards and landmarks to challenge your combat abilities.” Players will be tested in some of the most intense Sea of Thieves ship combat to date.

The longer players last in Last Ship Standing battles, the more Allegiance they’ll be rewarded with by the Guardians of Fortune and Servants of the Flame Factions. Players can also unlock some Battle-Scarred cosmetics for their ships in Sea of Thieves. Everyone who takes part in Last Ship Standing will earn some form of reward, although Allegiance rewards do increase based on performance. To ensure the new game mode is fair, solo and duo Sloop crews will be matched separately, so no one has an advantage beyond their skills at the helm and on the cannons.

Last Ship Standing will run throughout the entirety of Season 19: Act 3, set to conclude on June 18. However, Rare has confirmed that, following the conclusion of Sea of Thieves Season 19, the mode will return monthly as part of the live event calendar. Those who miss out this time around will still be able to access Last Ship Standing in the future.

Sea of Thieves has long recovered from its bad launch, and over eight years later, the game is still going strong. With Season 20 on the horizon, it will be exciting to see what Rare has planned for the big milestone. The developer has yet to reveal its plans beyond Season 19, but hopefully it can live up to expectations.
