Star Fox on Switch 2 won’t be a full-priced game, but fans will have to pick up a digital version to get the lowest price. The dogfighting rail shooter series has gone 10 years without a new release, not counting the once-canceled SNES sequel that Nintendo revived in 2017, but that gap is finally closing. The new Star Fox will be out before long, but not every aspect of the release is equally exciting.
After several leaks and rumors had suggested something was coming for the series, Nintendo revealed Star Fox on May 6 with a surprisingly soon release date of June 25, 2026. Those hoping for an entirely new experience may be a little disappointed, as it’s a remake of Star Fox 64, but the trailer did show off plenty of new content and modernizations. One thing this reveal did not include was the game’s price, but now Nintendo has clarified this area, and there’s both good news and bad news.
New Luigi’s Mansion Switch 2 Game Leaked
According to a new leak, a fourth Luigi’s Mansion game could currently be in the works for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Star Fox’s Digital Edition is Cheaper than the Physical Version
Official Nintendo Store listings for Star Fox are now live, and they confirm that the digital edition will cost $49.99, while physical copies will run for $59.99. Even the higher of the two is still below the $70 standard for major first-party games today, but having to pay an extra $10 for an actual cartridge is sure to rub some gamers the wrong way. Still, the discrepancy does not come as a huge surprise. Nintendo has previously stated that some physical Switch 2 games will be more expensive than their digital counterparts, as was the case with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, but it’s still a frustrating development for those who prefer hard copies.
Fit the 9 games into the grid.
Nintendo has run into a good deal of controversy over how it’s approached physical game copies with its latest system. Pricing differences aside, the Switch 2’s Game-Key Cards have proved unpopular among gamers, as they’re essentially a download code in a box instead of offering buyers many of the benefits that typically warrant a physical copy in the first place. Thankfully, Nintendo has promised first-party Switch 2 games will not use Game-Key Cards, so anyone buying the more expensive Star Fox physical edition will get the full game on the cartridge, which may make the price a little easier to swallow.
While there are plenty of advantages to buying physical games, from saving storage space to quelling ownership concerns, Star Fox‘s pricing sweetens the deal for digital alternatives. In light of the news that Nintendo is facing pressure to raise Switch 2 prices, it could be tempting to opt for the cheaper alternative to save a small amount before things potentially get more expensive. It’s also unclear if this dual pricing will become the standard from here on out, as its application has been a little inconsistent with Switch 2 games so far, but it does seem to be growing.

There may be more news for Star Fox fans to come. At least one recent leak suggested that there are two Star Fox games in the pipeline right now, although the release timing of this theoretical second title, if it’s real, remains uncertain. Still, the leaks about this most recent reveal being proved true could add validity to other rumors, so the franchise could be on the verge of a revival.
