Star Wars is Getting a Brand-New Racing Game That Looks Like the Best Thing Since Episode 1: Racer Released in 1999

Fuse Games has revealed a new look at gameplay of its upcoming podracing title, Star Wars: Galactic Racer. The high-octane racing game will send players to a galaxy far, far away for some exhilarating podracing action, and the latest Star Wars: Galactic Racer gameplay suggests it’s going to be the best thing since Episode 1: Racer was released all the way back in 1999.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer‘s first reveal came at The Game Awards 2025. That initial trailer was a cinematic introduction to the game’s tone, with players taking part in The Galactic League, an illegal podracing circuit based in the Outer Rim. It teased various iconic planets in the Star Wars universe, which many fans will recognize at a moment’s notice. Perhaps most surprising of all upon its announcement was the 2026 release window, making the window between the reveal and release quite short. With that in mind, it’s little surprise that fans haven’t had to wait long for their next look at Star Wars: Galactic Racer.

Star Wars Battlefront 3 Gets a Lifeline, Kind Of

Star Wars Battlefront 3 may still be a massive pipe dream at the moment, but fans can now at least download the next best thing.

New Star Wars: Galactic Racer Gameplay Shown at State of Play

During the most recent State of Play, Star Wars: Galactic Racer resurfaced with another explosive trailer, this time seemingly showing more in-game footage of the podraces. The game allows fans to race in both first- and third-person, so gamers can experience the chaos of podracing from any perspective they prefer. There’s no doubt that it looks incredible, with the State of Play trailer offering a more detailed look at some of the stunning planets found in Star Wars: Galactic Racer. Perhaps most impressive of all were the explosions, which capture the danger of high-speed podracing in brutal fashion.

Although very little is known about the narrative of Star Wars: Galactic Racer at this point, the State of Play trailer offered a brief look at a cutscene from the story. Fans will surely be left with more questions than answers at this point. The trailer ends on a high note, revealing footage from the Boonta Eve Classic, featuring Ben Quadinaros and Sebulba racing across Tatooine. Some felt that Star Wars: Galactic Racer wouldn’t feel like podracing without some of these iconic figures, so it’s good to see they’ll be making an appearance in some capacity.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is the first new racing game in the franchise for over 24 years. The last was Star Wars Racer Revenge, which launched in 2002. Prior to this, Super Bombad Racing was released in 2001, Racer Arcade in 2000, and Star Wars Episode 1: Racer in 1999. Podracing and video games feel like a natural fit, which is why it’s somewhat surprising that the Star Wars franchise left the racing genre for so long. All that matters is that it’s back now, and from what has been shown so far, it looks excellent.

It feels as though fans are set to enjoy a big resurgence in Star Wars games over the next few years. As well as Galactic Racer, Respawn continues to work on the third iteration of its Star Wars Jedi series. Bit Reactor is putting a turn-based twist on a galaxy far, far away with Star Wars Zero Company. Elsewhere, Amy Hennig’s Star Wars game is still in development, as is Star Wars: Eclipse from Quantic Dream. That’s before any mention of the Knights of the Old Republic remake, as well as Casey Hudson’s Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic. If all of these projects come to fruition and live up to their potential, it could be a new golden era for Star Wars video games.
