Star Wars is Just 1 Announcement Away From a Truly Glorious Year

Star Wars is a pop culture juggernaut. George Lucas’ vibrant sci-fi world has been going strong for nearly 50 years now, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. With hit shows like The Mandalorian and Andor and upcoming movies like the Ryan Gosling-led Star Wars: Starfighter, the franchise just keeps bringing new and exciting chapters of this world to life. Star Wars speaks to multiple generations, and the series has found one of its best homes in video games.

Some of the best Star Wars stories over the years have come from video games, and the future is already looking bright in that regard. The 2025 Game Awards shocked many when Fate of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Galactic Racer offered a double dose of exciting news for fans to celebrate. Fate of the Old Republic was exciting enough, but Star Wars: Galactic Racer brings a fresh Star Wars racing game to life that taps into a type of gameplay that the franchise hasn’t utilized as much. Developer Fuse Games has already shown gameplay footage of Star Wars: Galactic Racer this year at the recent Sony State of Play, so 2026 is off to a strong start. There is one game in particular that needs to make an appearance sometime in 2026, though.

Star Wars Jedi 3 Stepping Out of the Shadows Would Make 2026 a Huge Year For Star Wars Fans

  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – 2019
  • Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – 2023

There were four years between Fallen Order and Survivor‘s release dates. If developer Respawn Entertainment aims to make this a trend, then that means Star Wars Jedi 3‘s release date would more than likely be sometime in 2027. Of course, game development is becoming increasingly more challenging. This could make Star Wars Jedi 3‘s production length longer than past entries, but there’s still a chance that the third chapter is on track to repeat a four-year gap.

If that’s the case, then 2026 only makes sense to make the first announcement. With events like Summer Game Fest being a few months away, Respawn Entertainment would have the perfect stage to reveal the third entry that a lot of Star Wars fans have been waiting for.

Cal Kestis’ Internal Struggle is Teasing a Complex and Compelling Third Chapter

Throughout Survivor, it was clear that Cal is really struggling with the temptation of giving in to the Dark Side. By the end of the story, Cal is at a crossroads when it comes to his inner moral compass, and many are ready to see that unfold in Star Wars Jedi 3. There are plenty of theories explaining how Cal Kestis will turn to the Dark Side, but this is all simply speculation. Right now, it’s unclear if Respawn Entertainment is planning a surprise reveal later this year. The time feels right, though. Even if the game is still a year or two away, a teaser trailer that confirms the game is in the latter stages of development would be enough to get a lot of gamers pumped.

Star Wars Jedi 3 is Simply the Tip of the Star Wars Iceberg

For many, Star Wars Jedi 3 being announced this year would be huge. There are several other in-development projects that could prove to be nearly just as exciting, though. Fate of the Old Republic surprised a lot of Star Wars lovers, but it could also be the first step to revealing a release date or new trailer for the long-awaited KOTOR remake. The KOTOR remake has been stuck in development hell for a long time now. So, it would be great to finally see something new from Saber Interactive. Beyond the KOTOR remake, there are several other fascinating Star Wars projects that feel primed to be put in the spotlight later this year.

The two games are being made by different developers, but Fate of the Old Republic is being directed by original KOTOR director Casey Hudson.

Other Star Wars Games That Are Currently in Development

  • Star Wars: Zero Company
  • Star Wars Eclipse
  • Untitled Amy Hennig Star Wars game

Star Wars: Zero Company is slated for this year, but there still isn’t an official release date set in stone. The game is a turn-based tactics title that is set around the Clone Wars. Even more interesting are its co-developers. Bit Reactor is taking on the main development, but Respawn Entertainment is assisting in various ways. This is because the game is canon to the Star Wars Jedi story and larger franchise timeline. So, it will be fascinating to see how Star Wars: Zero Company connects to Star Wars Jedi.

Star Wars Eclipse is one of the most ambitious Star Wars games in the pipeline right now. This project is being developed by Quantic Dream, the studio that made games like Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain. Such a big-name IP is a huge change of pace for the developer. Set in the High Republic era, Star Wars Eclipse‘s story is expected to be an intertwining narrative filled with choices. This is Quantic Dream’s bread and butter, but reports claim that it will be more action-oriented than the studio’s previous work. It’s not clear when this project will be ready for launch. Speculation has pointed to a potential 2027 or 2028 release date. If it happens to be 2027, then this year could potentially have some Star Wars Eclipse news in store. If so, it would mark the first major update since its 2021 Game Awards announcement trailer.

Last, but not least, is Amy Hennig’s secretive Star Wars game with Skydance New Media. Hennig is best known for creating the Uncharted series, and that style of gameplay would be tons of fun in a Star Wars setting. Hennig was once working on another Star Wars game for EA, but it was ultimately canceled. Even if a Star Wars Jedi 3 announcement or new KOTOR remake update aren’t part of Star Wars‘ 2026 plans, there are still a lot of games that could come out and surprise gamers. However, Star Wars Jedi 3 is hopefully the next reveal waiting in the wings. Having this many Star Wars games on the horizon is great, but Star Wars Jedi 3 can continue one of the best stories the franchise has seen.
