Without any major Star Wars movies hitting recently, the franchise feels like it’s a bit on ice, but video games continue to deliver with Star Wars: Masters of the Force. A self-proclaimed new era for Star Wars, Masters of the Force will bring Ryloth, the Twi’lek homeworld out in the Outer Rim territories, into play, elevating the planet from awesome lore into a core piece of this new release.
Of course, it’s worth noting that there is more Star Wars media on the horizon. Star Wars: Starfighter is the only movie with a confirmed release date, but there are also rumblings of a new Rey Skywalker movie, a new trilogy from Simon Kinberg, and James Mangold’s movie. Furthermore, Star Wars: Zero Company releases soon and Star Wars Jedi 3 is believed to be in the works, but regardless of what comes next, fans can rely on the Masters of the Force update to come from Broadsword Online Games, the current developer of Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Star Wars: Masters of the Force Deals with Darth Malgus’ Legacy
Masters of the Force is the official title of Game Update 8.0 for Star Wars: The Old Republic, and all of this new content begins with the Galaxy in Chaos storyline. Malgus’ legacy has now reached Force-sensitive beings across the galaxy, spreading unrest and leaving both the Republic (as well as the Sith Empire) to deal with the fallout. That story will eventually bring players to Ryloth, and the new planet will feature dangerous terrain, hostile factions, the Hutt Cartel, and Dynamic Encounters scattered throughout its landscape.

The update is not just about adding another planet, either. Masters of the Force will introduce Story, Veteran, and Master Difficulty Modes to the overworld, letting players decide how much of a challenge they want while still exploring the same content. Ventures will also add Classic and Expert Venture characters, giving players a new progression path built around familiar SWTOR gameplay experiences, new objectives, and unique rewards. There is plenty more coming alongside those systems:
Furthermore, there is the Children of Nul Operation, which gives groups of eight players a new three-boss challenge tied directly to Darth Nul (played by BG3 Karlach Actor Samantha Beart) and the mysteries surrounding the Enigma. Although Nul was eliminated by the Emperor, her influence remains through the abandoned sections of the ship and the dangerous experiments left behind. The Operation will launch with Story and Veteran difficulties, with Master Mode arriving later, and its first boss is already available on the Public Test Server.

Ultimately, Masters of the Force is shaping up to be one of the more substantial additions Star Wars: The Old Republic has received in quite some time. As always, it’ll be interesting to see how this new SWTOR content is received by fans, but the good news is that Broadsword is planning Developer Let’s Plays in the coming months to showcase everything to players before its release.
