The Walnut Room, Ginger Island

In the Walnut Room of Ginger Island, Qi gives you a fishing quest called The Extended Family. The Order’s description notifies you that “Family members of the legendary fish have returned. You have three days to catch Ms. Angler, Glocierfish Jr., Son of Crimsonfish, Radioactive Carp, and The Legend II.” By doing so, you earn 20 Qi Gems.

How to Complete the Extended Family Order

You must catch the family members of Angler, Crimsonfish, Glacierfish, Legend, and Mutant Carp. Unlike other legendary fish, the extended family variants spawn irrespective of the season and weather. To complete the quest, you must fish in the same spots where you found the original legendary sea creatures.

You can find the Radioactive Carp in The Sewers. If you haven’t unlocked this area yet, donate 60 items to the Museum. Upon achieving this goal, you will be rewarded with the Rusty Key, which opens the door to The Sewers, where you can fish for Mutant and Radioactive Fish.

Legend II

Mountain Lake

Level 10

The Legend II is located in Mountain Lake, near the tent. Access the small islands in the middle of the pond and throw your hook toward the southern parts of the waterway to catch the last member of the extended family and finish Qi’s quest.

The Iridium Rod, Curiosity Lure, Lead Bobber, and Wild Bait are essential items for the Extended Family Quest. These fishing boosters increase the chances of finding rare sea creatures, helping to speed up the Order’s progress.

The Stardew Valley 1.6 update introduced several new fishing tools that can further improve the odds of catching legendary fish and completing the Extended Family Quest more efficiently. The following items from this update are recommended for those aiming to beat the quest with maximum efficiency:

  • Sonar Bobber
: This new Tackle lets you see the fish before deciding to catch it, preventing time wasted on the fishing mini-game if the catch isn’t the one you’re targeting.
  • Advanced Iridium Rod
: This item allows you to equip two Tackles, and the best part is that their effects stack, boosting your fishing efficiency.
  • Lucky Purple Shorts: If you place Mayor Lewis’s underwear in the first Tackle slot of the Advanced Iridium Rod, it will preserve the durability of the secondary Tackle.

Can You Repeat the Extended Family Quest?

The Extended Family Order appears periodically in Qi’s Walnut Room. It may take some time before the quest reappears on the list, but it’s possible to complete it multiple times within the same playthrough.

Veteran players often use the Extended Family quest as a strategy to catch as many legendary fish as possible. By avoiding the last fish, they can continue farming the others throughout the quest’s duration, resulting in massive profits. For example, catching multiple Legend II fish, smoking them, and selling each can net you around 20,000g to 30,000g each.

The fish from the Extended Family quest can be sold just like any other fish. Their value can increase with the Fisher or Angler professions, so they’re worth quite a bit if you’ve invested in fishing. Plus, if you place one of the Extended Family fish into a Fish Pond, it will start producing roe over time once the population increases.

If you put roe into a Preserves Jar, it turns into Aged Roe, which significantly increases its value. Because Extended Family fish have high base prices, Aged roe is often more valuable long-term than selling multiple fish outright.
