Starfield has just been rated for the Switch 2 by the Taiwanese ratings board, implying that the game may be coming to Nintendo’s platform in the near future. When Starfield came out in September 2023, Microsoft and Bethesda envisioned it as a flagship title for the Xbox Series X|S. A modern Bethesda sandbox and a new intellectual property, Starfield had a lot going for it at the time, but the game itself fell short of player expectations. It lacked the magic of earlier Bethesda titles by focusing too much on procedural generation to the detriment of an immersive, handcrafted world.
A year later, on September 30, 2024, Starfield released Shattered Space, its first expansion pack that took players to the heart of House Va’ruun, one of the more interesting factions in the Settled Systems. While it expanded Starfield‘s lore and leaned into depicting a truly alien environment, Shattered Space ultimately did not win over the players it lost at launch. Terran Armada, released on April 7, 2026, saw bigger success in this endeavor, as many Starfield players have returned to the Settled Systems and found the state of the game to be far more agreeable in 2026.
Is Starfield Better Now?
Starfield just received a new story DLC and a big free update, but is the game better off now than at launch?
Starfield May Be Coming to Nintendo Switch 2
As reported by Universo Nintendo, Taiwan Entertainment Software Rating Information gave an R rating to the Switch 2 version of Starfield, implying that Bethesda was either working on a Nintendo Switch 2 port of the game or that someone from the board made a very grave error. Given that Starfield‘s entry features other discrepancies, mostly regarding its release date for the PlayStation 5, it’s important to take this information with a grain of salt. That being said, a leak about Starfield coming to Switch 2 circulated in the game’s community in March 2026.
The leak claimed that a port for the Nintendo Switch 2 was being developed, but that it hasn’t been a smooth process. Given the technical issues that have plagued Starfield on the PlayStation 5, it would make sense for Bethesda to take extra care with a Switch 2 version. With Starfield demanding a strong CPU to run smoothly, and with the Switch 2 having weaker CPUs compared to the current Xbox and PlayStation consoles, it’s a likely hurdle that the team at Bethesda had to overcome.
In 2026, Starfield fans can expect a more polished experience: improved POIs, a Cruise Mode for interstellar jumps, better loot and crafting, and the ability to upgrade Starborn powers without having to enter a temple, as well as being able to carry over favored weapons across Unity. However, the story and companions in Starfield continue to be its weakest point, and the procedural nature of planets still curbs the game’s environmental storytelling.

While Starfield did not fulfill its expectation to be a flagship franchise for the Xbox, it has found its audience across PC, Xbox, and now PlayStation. With Switch 2 potentially joining the mix, it will end up occupying the same space as other Bethesda franchises – available on many platforms, brimming with content, and supported by a strong modding community.
