Twitch Streamers Are Angry About New AI Feature

Twitch Streamers Are Angry About New AI Feature

Twitch is introducing a new AI feature that’s intended to give a synopsis of what the viewer missed on a channel before they tuned in, and streamers aren’t happy about it. The announcement has been followed by plenty of comments from Twitch streamers demanding a way to turn it off.

Generative AI, LLMs, and even AI-infused search results have seen mixed opinions all over the internet. So-called AI slop has frustrated gamers, artists have had to contend with AI competition, and developers have mixed opinions on whether AI is useful to their work. While plenty of people have embraced AI’s capabilities, a new subset is now upset about its implementation: Twitch streamers.

Twitch Streamers Share Negative Responses to New AI Feature

During TwitchCon Rotterdam 2026, Twitch unveiled a slew of new features, options, and tools that it either already has or will be rolling out to the public. Among them is a new stream summary feature that’s designed to catch up viewers who are tuning in to a stream that’s already started. The idea is supposed to be helpful, but streamers have shared their frustration at the new feature, with many asking for a way to turn it off before they’ve even experienced it for themselves.

Complaints about the new Twitch synopsis experiment have targeted everything from the potential for inaccuracy to simply hating AI summaries. Many streamers requested ways to disable the feature, or demanded that it be off by default, stating that they do not want their streams to be “fed to an AI bot” and don’t want the AI trained on their work. Several said they’d rather catch up their community members themselves, while others have called it “useless,” pointing to features on other platforms that provide summaries that are often inaccurate. Even some viewers have responded to the tweet, alleging that no one asked for a feature like this.

Thus far, Twitch has yet to respond to the complaints, nor has it specified whether the feature will be enabled by default, or if there will even be a way to shut it off. It’s not clear if the company will backpeddle following the anti-AI response, or if it will stick to its plan. Amazon, the parent company of Twitch, has notably been embracing AI in recent history. Its workers are using AI, AI has been utilized to summarize reviews on product pages, and recently, Amazon Prime Video revealed that it will be adding multiple animated series made with generative AI. However, this new feature is being referred to as an experiment, so it’s possible that Twitch could axe it.

In the past, Twitch has made some changes that have led to backlash from streamers, which ultimately caused the company to undo those changes. One such example is when Twitch gave viewers the opportunity to gift up to a thousand subs at once. Streamers were upset about it because many worried that trolls or scammers would charge back their purchases to make streamers’ accounts overdrawn. However, a new feature called “Gift Em All,” which also allows for up to 1,000 gifted subs at once, was just announced at TwitchCon Rotterdam, so even streamer complaints may not be enough to change anything in the long run.
