Conatus Creative has confirmed that River City Ransom: Underground is soon going to be delisted from Steam, but you can now get it for cheap thanks to a massive 85% discount. Although this is sad news for those who will miss out on the deal, expiring as soon as January 5, 2026, it’s unclear how long it will take River City Ransom: Underground to be fully delisted from Steam.
When River City Ransom: Underground was first released, it was met with some backlash from fans who were eagerly waiting for a sequel to the original River City Ransom, as the online multiplayer component of the game had major issues that didn’t track players’ progress. However, the game was seen as a clear upgrade from its predecessor, with plenty of new moves and ways to improve your skills, quickly becoming a beloved beat ’em up game. On Steam, River City Ransom: Underground had a “Very Positive” average in recent reviews, with 93% of them being positive.

Classic Steam Horror Game from 2005 Delisted Without Warning
A classic survival horror title from 2005 gets pulled from Steam and the Microsoft Store with no notice and little hope of returning anytime soon.
Say Goodbye to River City Ransom: Underground in 2026
On December 30, 2025, Conatus Creative announced that River City Ransom: Underground would be delisted on Steam due to the expiration of a licensing agreement and that the delisting process was underway. The series first debuted in 1989 as an NES game with River City Ransom, followed by River City Ransom: Underground in 2017 after a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in late 2014. River City Ransom is considered one of the best beat ’em up games ever, and the sequel improved on the original’s formula greatly, breathing new life into the genre.
However, Conatus Creative was not the original developer of River City Ransom, and it needed an official license to make a sequel. This is likely why the game is delisted from Steam, with no images or videos on the official store page. There is a silver lining, though, as you can now get River City Ransom: Underground at 85% off, for a total of $2.99 instead of $19.99.
You Can Get a 93% Positive Game on Steam for Less Than $3, But You Need to Act Fast
Since the sale for River City Ransom: Underground ends on January 5, 2026, it’s best to pick up the game as soon as possible if you’re interested. It’s also worth noting that even with the game being fully delisted, you will still be able to download it and play it at any time as long as it’s in your Steam library.
With the original River City Ransom director’s death in 2022, Mitsuhiro Yoshida, and now the delisting of River City Ransom: Underground, there may be no other game in the series for the foreseeable future. As such, you shouldn’t miss out on the opportunity to grab the game on Steam while the sale is going on, especially if you’re a fan of beat ’em up or retro games.
