As of this writing, Steam users have less than a week left to claim a popular 2020 supernatural adventure game and keep it without paying a single dime, meaning they should act quickly to take advantage of this limited-time deal. Steam users should be aware that the Summer Sale is underway too, lasting through July 9, but free games beat cheap games generally speaking.
Steam’s Free-to-Keep Promotion is one of the best consumer-forward free game offerings on the internet. Essentially, it is a publisher-led initiative to turn paid, premium games into free titles for a short period of time, letting players claim them and keep them after the expiration date. Not every Steam FTK game is going to rock players’ worlds, but free’s free, especially in an economy where the prices of the Steam Machine, Xbox Series X/S consoles, and PlayStation consoles seem to only go up.
Xbox Series X/S Consoles Just Got Even More Expensive Yet Again
Xbox announces another round of price increases for its consoles, making it more expensive than ever to own a Series X or Series S.
Get Tell My Why 100% Free
Steam users have until July 1 at 9 am PT/12 pm ET to claim Dontnod Entertainment and Xbox Game Studios’ Tell Me Why, add it to their digital Steam libraries, and keep it forever. Tell Me Why has been part of Steam’s Free-to-Keep Promotion for all of June, in celebration of Pride Month, and it has been available for free every June for that exact reason. Still, there’s a chance it’s not in someone’s library, and with its expiry date fast approaching, the best time to claim it is now.

For those unfamiliar, Tell Me Why is an episodic supernatural adventure game made by the same studio that made the original Life is Strange games. In it, twins Tyler and Alyson Ronan reunite in small-town Alaska after years apart. The two revisit their childhood home and uncover long-buried family secrets, as they discover they share a supernatural twin bond that allows them to revisit memories together. Much like Life is Strange (but with less focus on time manipulation), the game revolves around player choices, branching conversations, and piecing together the truth behind a deeply personal mystery.
Tell Me Why earned generally positive reviews on Steam, earning an 80% Very Positive rating after 8,000 reviews. And given how many times it’s been a free game on Steam, that’s just an added layer of impressiveness. Many highlight Tyler and Alyson’s relationship, as well as the setting, the mystery, and other narrative mechanics. While the gameplay and pacing did receive some critique, the overall reception remained strong.

For fans of story-heavy adventure games like Life is Strange, TellTale’s The Walking Dead, or As Dusk Falls, Tell Me Why is often considered one of Dontnod’s most memorable narrative experiences. Plus, there’s no reason not to snag it while it’s free. Even if someone doesn’t have time to play it now, it doesn’t expire and can sit comfortably in a library until whoever is ready for it.
