In its latest earnings call, South Korean developer Shift Up has confirmed that it will be publishing the upcoming sequel to Stellar Blade. While the first Stellar Blade was developed by Shift Up, it was published by Sony and originally launched as a PlayStation 5 exclusive before coming to PC around a year later.
Upon its PS5 debut back in April 2024, Stellar Blade received a very warm reception from critics. On OpenCritic, Stellar Blade has earned a Top Critic Average of 81, and a critic recommendation score of 81%. GameRant’s own Dalton Cooper gave Stellar Blade a 9/10, praising the game’s “intense combat and memorable boss fights” as well as its customization options and over-the-top tone, but pointing to its lackluster side quests as a key area for improvement.

Stellar Blade 2 Is Being Published by Shift Up
In its first quarterly earnings report of 2026, published on May 11, Shift Up announced that it would be publishing the sequel to Stellar Blade by itself. More specifically, the company stated that with Stellar Blade 2, the studio “will transition to a first-party service model.” As to why Shift Up has decided not to partner with Sony again, the studio believes it will “allow [them] to lead marketing strategies that fully reflect the distinctive identity of the Stellar Blade IP, and [they] expect to communicate the unique appeal of its universe to players more directly and effectively.”

Additionally, Shift Up stated that it’s “formulating an optimal go-to-market strategy designed to maximize sales and reach a broad global audience from day one.” While it hasn’t officially confirmed that Stellar Blade 2 will launch on more platforms than just PlayStation 5 upon its debut, that seems to be what the studio is suggesting with this statement. Shift Up also mentioned that it’s “actively exploring further platform expansion” for the first Stellar Blade, which is a sentiment that was heard from the studio just a few months ago. It’s still unconfirmed what platforms the studio is planning to bring the first Stellar Blade to.
In the same earnings call, Shift Up also confirmed that the next project from Unbound will also be published by the company itself as opposed to any external partners. For those unaware, Unbound is a studio formed by ex-Capcom veteran and Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami. It was acquired by Shift Up last month.

Stellar Blade 2 Should Be Revealed This Year
Along with the confirmation that Sony won’t be publishing the sequel to Stellar Blade, Shift Up’s most recent earnings call seemingly confirmed that a proper Stellar Blade 2 reveal is slated for later this year. In a graphic presented during the earnings call, it’s stated that “details [are] to be revealed within the year” for Stellar Blade 2. Included in the same graphic is Project Spirits, a cross-platform turn-based fantasy RPG that was initially revealed in June 2025 and is still in development at Shift Up. News on Project Spirits is also said to be coming later this year.
