OtherSide Entertainment is ending support for Thick as Thieves, Warren Spector’s most recent stealth immersive sim, after only two months of service. While no new content will be launched, the developer has shared an update on the future of Thick as Thieves‘ playability.
Initially announced during The Game Awards 2024, Thick as Thieves is a multiplayer heist game developed by OtherSide Entertainment and published by Megabit Publishing. The game also had the close participation of renowned game designer Warren Spector, known for creating some of the best immersive sims of all time, like Deus Ex, System Shock, and Thief. Many players expected Thick as Thieves to become Thief‘s spiritual successor, and it was finally released on May 20, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. However, the development team has now decided to end support for Thick as Thieves.
Warren Spector’s Thick as Thieves Ends Support After Two Months
As shared in OtherSide Entertainment’s July 23 announcement on Steam, the studio is ending its support for Thick as Thieves, confirming that the game won’t receive any new content updates. “Working in the gaming industry is at times delightful and at other times heartbreaking,” writes game director Jeff Hickman, adding that the development team is now comprised of very few members. “To be frank, this is not the outcome that any of us want, but we’re facing the reality that ongoing development of extra content, modes and systems is not a viable path,” he explained. However, a lifeline was also offered for Thick as Thieves players. OtherSide Entertainment and its partner publisher Megabit have pledged to make a new version that uses peer-to-peer servers for co-op instead of servers in the cloud. According to Hickman, this will let fans play with friends at any given time with a “virtually identical” experience. Solo gameplay will also remain unaffected.

After this new version of Thick as Thieves is completed, the game will go into Megabit Publishing’s hands for any further bugs or issues. The end-of-support announcement comes after OtherSide Entertainment was struck by layoffs only one month after Thick as Thieves launched, as reported by PC Gamer, leaving a team of less than ten employees. Thick as Thieves was expected to add more characters besides the two default ones available at launch. Per the announcement, it seems the studio also considered adding more game modes, but now these plans won’t see the light of day.

Aside from the input of developers Warren Spector and Paul Neurath, Thick as Thieves shares other similarities with Thief. Both titles feature first-person stealth gameplay and are set in steampunk worlds in an alternate 1900s timeline. For this reason, many veteran immersive sim fans were looking forward to Spector’s new game, as the Thief series may not see a new entry in the near future. On the other hand, Thick as Thieves was initially designed as a PvPvE, but OtherSide Entertainment announced in April 2026 that it would become a two-player and single-player title.
Thick as Thieves was launched at the low price of $5, but it seems the game did not attract the support it expected. Unfortunately, the video game industry can be unpredictable, and online titles tend to be hit or miss. Oftentimes, players decide which live-service games don’t last, and studios have to shut down services indefinitely. Hopefully, the new version will come sooner rather than later for Thick as Thieves fans.
